Both Newcastle and West Ham willing to meet Moussa Marega £27m release clause – Report
An interesting report on Friday sees Footmercato reporting that both West Ham and Newcastle are prepared to pay the release clause for Moussa Marega.
They claim that the player is now deciding between the two clubs after returning from African Cup of Nations duty with Mali. That release clause reported to be 30m euros (£27m).
The 28 year old plays his club football for Porto and these past three seasons has scored 46 goals in 78 league starts (plus 5 sub appearances).
After 22 goals in 27 league starts in 2017/18, that fell to 11 in 28 league starts last season.
However, Moussa Marega did star for Porto in the Champions League, he ended up joint third top scorer in the competition with six goals in nine appearances, a key figure as Porto reached the quarter-finals before losing to eventual winners Liverpool.
The two Premier League clubs have each lost three strikers this summer, with Carroll, Perez and Arnautovic leaving the Hammers, with Rondon, Perez and Joselu departing the Magpies.
It has also been previously reported elsewhere, that if Newcastle land another striker, then Dwight Gayle could also be sold.
Having won the Portuguese league in 2017/18 and finishing runners up with Porto last season, with the striker now 28, this could be his moment to try his luck at the higher level. Plus of course Premier League level wages.
Only 12 more days remain of this transfer window after today and Newcastle are desperate to add more goals.
Perez and Rondon scored 23 of the 42 PL goals last season and as it stands, central defender Fabian Schar is last season’s top scorer who is still at the club, having scored four. Clark (three) and Ritchie (two) are the only other ones still in the squad who score more than one PL goal for Newcastle in 2018/19.
