Achraf Lazaar says he is now only thinking of Newcastle United and not a move elsewhere

Achraf Lazaar has been interviewed in Italy.

The left-back is now three years into his five year contract but is still to start a league game for Newcastle United and in total has only 36 minutes in four brief Championship appearances when it comes to his NUFC league ‘career’ so far.

Earlier this year he went to Sheffield Wednesday on loan and though only playing 220 minutes of first team football (three starts and one appearance off the bench), the Moroccan international impressed Owls fans at that second tier level.

Passing through Milan on his way back to Tyneside, Calciomercato interviewed the 27 year old.

Achraf Lazaar telling them his holidays are over and he is heading back to Tyneside for pre-season, which starts tomorrow (Thursday).

Asked about what will happen next and whether he will look for a move back to Italy, Lazaar replied that there was interest from Genoa but that is in the past.

Instead he says that now ‘I think only of Newcastle.’

It is a cliche but one that we are going to get used to, as the local media start talking about it being a fresh start for players frozen out by Rafa Benitez, that the new manager/head coach (if indeed one is appointed…) will give everybody a chance and have a look at the players already contracted, before making  any quick decisions on signings.

Watch out for the newspapers running ‘Could be like a new signing’ and simply replacing the name each time, with Achraf Lazaar, Rolando Aarons, Dwight Gayle, Henri Saivet and Jack Colback all getting their turn.

in truth of course, of the five only Dwight Gayle is in any way somebody who could be a first team asset next season.

Achraf Lazaar taking  to Calciomercato:

“I have finished my holidays and now I go back to Newcastle (for pre-season).

“In the coming days, I will start training for the new season.

“Will I go back to Italy?

“Now there is nothing.

“I think only of Newcastle.

“Genoa? There was a concrete interest but in the past.”
