Imagine if the club/Mike Ashley released an official Newcastle United statement along the lines of the following.

What would the thoughts of the fans be?

Would we be more understanding of a club currently in transition?

(Suggested!) Newcastle United statement…

On 12 May Newcastle United signed off in style with our biggest away win of the season, running out 4-0 winners away at Craven Cottage.

Since that date the club have been working on a number of immediate matters of interest alongside preparations for the forthcoming season.

We have worked alongside the manager and his coaching staff to determine the players that we would like to retain the services of and the difficult decision of the ones to release from the club. We thank those individuals leaving for their professionalism and the commitment they have shown to the club during their time spent in the famous Black & White stripes.

Whilst deciding these players futures, the decisions that were made coincided with the manager’s ambition to improve the current playing squad at both first team and development levels.

We are working hard behind the scenes to bring the right individuals to the club, who can wear the shirt with pride and strive to improve initially on last season’s 13th place finish, as well as in future years with a view to develop in the future at Newcastle United.

We have also held discussions with the manager with a view to extending his current contract past 30 June. We feel we have offered him an extremely lucrative package to retain his services and to enable him to move the club forward in-line with his long-term vision whilst not risking the financial status of the club. We await the manager’s decision and will report back to the fans at the earliest opportunity once a conclusion has been reached.

As documented in both the local and national media, the club has been open for discussions with possible suitors regarding the potential sale of the club.

Whilst the current owner looks to leave the club when the time is right, he wishes to leave ensuring the long-term stability of Newcastle United is unaffected and future investors are able to move the club forward.

As it stands, there have been numerous discussions with potential purchasers and all discussions are at different stages of negotiation.

As the club wants to uphold the terms agreed within non-disclosure agreements signed by all parties, we cannot provide further comment at this stage. As soon as there is an update regarding the potential sale of the club, we will endeavour to release this information as swiftly as possible.

Please rest assured that we at Newcastle United are working tirelessly, planning for both the immediate and long-term future of the club and share the burning desire of the fans to make this club successful both on and off the pitch moving forward.

Yours Sincerely

Someone who cares about the fans!!!!

Would it show they too have ambitions to improve in the future?

Would we respect that if a NDA is in place, we understand why the club/Mike Ashley can’t provide a running commentary on proceedings and that they are looking to sell to the right buyer for the club?

Interested in your comments.

More importantly, will the club follow suit by offering an insight?
