West Ham fans scathing about idea of buying these two Newcastle United players
West Ham fans took protests to an extreme during the 2017/18 season.
Pitch invasions and attempts to reach the club’s owners in the Director’s Box.
Summer 2018 seeing a new manager (Manuel Pellegrini) given £100m to spend (a net spend of around £85m0.
That satisfied the West Ham fans up to a point but now the natives are getting restless again.
The Hammers have been strongly linked with Andre Gomes after the midfielder excelled last season in a loan spell at Everton.
However, with Barcelona reported to want at least £30m for Gomes and West Ham said to have offered only £20m so far, hopes are fading of them landing the Portuguese international.
The London Evening Standard reported on Tuesday that they understood West Ham were now looking at Isaac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey as midfielders they could land instead.
The newspaper putting their likely transfer valuation at around £15m for either of them.
Jonjo Shelvey is a childhood Hammers fan and Isaac Hayden has had an excellent season but needs to head back south for family reasons.
Ironic when you think how often Newcastle supporters are called deluded because of their supposed ‘expectations’, nothing is said when West Ham fans have kicked off (see below) at going for cheap alternatives.
Bearing in mind that Miguel Almiron became the first player Newcastle had paid £15m or more for, since Michael Owen in 2005.
Forever West Ham report:
‘The Evening Standard released a report on Tuesday stating that Newcastle United midfielders Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden are on West Ham United’s radar as potential alternatives to Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, and that both would cost around £15million each.
That news hasn’t gone down well with the Hammers faithful, to say the least. They don’t seem to feel like either man is good enough to take the team to the next level and that they’re certainly not genuine alternatives to Gomes. To be fair, neither player has the quality of the Portugal international.
He’s simply a class above them both, despite them both being fine Premier League midfielders. For the West Ham fans, though, they want to see their team bring in top shelf talent to help them take the next step to being contenders for European football.
They clearly don’t feel that either Shelvey or Hayden are good enough to do that.
It’s a difficult one, this, because £15million is simply par for the course for a decent player these days.
Still, the Hammers supporters have made their thought abundantly clear.’
