Sky Sports reveal Mike Ashley and Rafa Benitez both claiming they were willing to have further talks

Sky Sports have given Newcastle fans a right dilemma.

Who to believe, Mike Ashley or Rafa Benitez?

Sky Sports presenter (and Newcastle fan) Pete Graves has revealed that both the owner and (soon to be ex-)manager have said that they were willing to have further talks to try and agree a contract.

What a tricky one, wondering who might be telling the truth?

If you read the Newcastle fan reaction (see below) to the dilemma, I think that will be very reflective of the entire NUFC fanbase.

Pete Graves of Sky Sports via Twitter:

“So that’s that. “No way back” according to Rafa’s camp.

“As reported elsewhere today’s statement was a surprise to him. The Spaniard’s priority was still to remain at Newcastle United

“Club say they wanted to meet for talks but it was Rafa’s camp that refused…

“Rafa’s side say he WAS open for talks.

“Incredible situation again at Newcastle United.”

Newcastle fans respond to the ‘dilemma’ of who to believe…:

Dean Burns;

‘Well, Rafa is a gentleman. An honourable guy who is respected across the world.

Mike Ashley is a pathological liar who has a track record for lying all of the time.

If Mike Ashley told me it was raining, I’d still look out of the window for myself.’

Jack Goodrich:

‘Who to believe… Rafa or the guy who was proven a liar in court… Tough one.’

Lee Robson:

‘I know who I’m believing Pete.’

‘Quick Pete get that legend Dennis Wise on to tell us exactly what happened, maybe Jim White can chip in if he’s not 6 pints deep.’

Paul Emmerson:

‘Well i’m not sure who i believe Pete! Rafa or the proven liar!’

‘Let’s just move on from who’s to blame.

Only the takeover will save nufc and that’s got to happen soon or its relegation number 3 for Mr Ashley and this time we won’t come straight back up.’

‘Both statements can be true.

Nufc say they want to talk to rafa but wont change their offer.

Rafa says he is open to talks but only if nufc are willing to change their offer.’

Chris Carr:

‘One is a world class manager who has constantly spoke about how he wants the best for the club and city!

The other was found guilty of repeatedly lying to its supporters!! I know which side I believe.’

Andy Milne:

‘Why would anyone believe what the club say, they have continuously lied time after time to fans and to the press!’

Sam Chipperfield:

‘We all know this is down to ashley and charnley not rafa, they could have met months ago but a week after the season ended, embarrassing.’

The Steve:

‘It’s not like the owner has been found guilty of lying in a court of law or anything…’
