Sevilla Director of Football travelling to Tyneside to discuss signing 2 Newcastle players – Report
There are reports from Spain on Sunday that Sevilla are interested in signing two Newcastle players.
The Spanish club recently brought back ‘Monchi’ (Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo) as Director of Football in March.
After retiring as a goalkeeper for the club, Monchi became a key figure at Sevilla where he was Director of Football for 17 years, before moving to Roma in 2017.
Now he has returned, he has been given the job of revitalising the La Liga club’s squad and is expected to bring in a number of new signings this summer.
According to Estadio Deportivio, Monchi is set to fly to Tyneside this coming week to discuss signing two players.
In his previous time at Sevilla, Monchi built a reputation through bringing in players such as Diego Capel, Jesus Navas, Antonio Puerta, Sergio Ramos, Jose Antonio Reyes, Adriano, Dani Alves, Julio Baptista, Seydou Keita and Ivan Rakitic.
The Spanish newspaper claims that Florian Lejeune is the main target. The Frenchman currently on his way back from injury after impressing in his time so far at St James Park, Newcastle having signed him for just under £9m from La Liga side Eibar.
The report says that Ayoze Perez is the other player that Sevilla are interested in.
There have of course been no players bought or sold by Newcastle United this summer, as the club appears frozen in time due to ownership and managerial uncertainty.
Today is the 39th day of the transfer window and Thursday will see us reach exactly the halfway point, with the Newcastle United squad reporting back one week later to start pre-season.
