Sergio Conceicao is latest as Sky Sports relentlessly claim next Newcastle United manager interest

I thought Sky Sports were terrible for linkingĀ  Newcastle United with signing random players.

However, only three days after that Ashley statement saying Rafa Benitez was leaving, Sky Sports have been quite shocking in terms of the number of people that they’ve linked to the impending vacancy.

They have named every name under the sun but ran actual claims of interest featuringĀ  a lot of those names, claiming interest from Newcastle United and/or the individual concerned.

Avram Grant was the first one that Sky Sports assured us Newcastle were considering, as well as that I have seen Jose Mourinho linked, then the likes of Caudio Ranieri, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and so on.

The latest on Thursday night has Sky Sports declaring: ‘Porto manager Sergio Conceicao is interested in the soon-to-be vacant Newcastle United job, Sky Sports News understands.’

Funnily enough, each of these articles/reports claiming likely candidates, also comes with the latest Skybet odds on next Newcastle manager…

Sky Sports proclaim ‘Newcastle are thought to have a long list of names’, well I doubt if it is as long as the Sky Sports list!

As for these latest claims of Porto manager Sergio Conceicao supposedly beingĀ  desperate to work for Mike Ashley…he won the Portuguese title in 2017/18 and was a close second last season in the league, plus he would be giving up Champions League football this coming season to join a club in total disarray. Plus Mike Ashley would have to pay compensation if he was to land Sergio Conceicao, something he has never done in 12 years of control at St James Park.

Looking forward to Friday and seeing which five new candidates Sky Sports are pushing for the job.

Sky Sports report:

‘Porto manager Sergio Conceicao is interested in the soon-to-be vacant Newcastle United job, Sky Sports News understands.

Conceicao has been in charge of the Portuguese side for two seasons and led them to the title in 2018.

Newcastle are thought to have a long list of names and Conceicao is one that would fit the profile of manager they are looking for to replace Rafael Benitez.’
