Richard Keys comments on Rafa Benitez leaving, Mike Ashley and says he’s spoken to potential buyer

It had to happen eventually, Richard Keys weighing in to the debate on Mike Ashley forcing out Rafa Benitez.

No surprises either that this isn’t the way the disgraced former Sky Sports presenter sees it…

He has repeatedly spoken out in favour of Mike Ashley against Newcastle fans, on top of which his hatred of Rafa Benitez is always clear to see.

Saturday night saw Newcastle fans trying to engage Richard Keys about Rafa’s imminent departure and he was happy to oblige.

Plus he was more than happy to add a lot of other information/claims.

No surprise when he declares ‘Your club (Newcastle United)  is buoyant – financially stable. Your owner tired of Rafa’s constant moaning and no one in their right mind gives the manager financial control. Rafa won’t get a better job than he had. Newcastle will power on.’

It is all laughable of course, Mike Ashley refusing to change anything at NUFC and not even letting the manager have free rein to choose signings within a pre-agreed budget…as for Newcastle united being ‘buoyant’, well I suppose we haven’t quite sunk just yet.

Mike Ashley engineering a situation where an experienced and talented manager leaves, refuses to even try and buy player of the season Salomon Rondon, plus now we are only four days away from pre-season starting with no manager or first team coaching staff and less than six weeks until the transfer window closes without a single player bought so far.

Richard Keys claims that neither the Bin Zayed Group or another rival bidder wanted Rafa Benitez.

Indeed, Keys states that he has been talking to this mystery unnamed rival bidder and that he suggested they should go for Steven Gerrard if they buy NUFC, saying ‘He’d set the place alight.’

Who knows what Gerrard may be capable of in management but finishing nine points behind in a two horse race in Scotland doesn’t really back Keys’ claims up.

As for setting things alight, Mike Ashley is certainly doing his best to figuratively burn the club down and ensure there will be very little to salvage afterwards.

Richard Keys responding to Newcastle fans via Twitter:

“You will be there for the first game of the season – watching your team in your own stadium with someone in charge who will give you your team back and excite you.

“My team (Coventry) will be playing in Birmingham. That’s when you know you’ve got bad owners.

“Wait for the replacement (for Rafa Benitez) announcement.

“Your club (Newcastle United) is buoyant – financially stable.

“Your owner (Mike Ashley) tired of Rafa’s constant moaning and no one in their right mind gives the manager financial control.

“Rafa won’t get a better job than he had. Newcastle will power on

“I don’t think the Arabic (Bin Zayed Group) bid is favourite.

“To the best of my knowledge there’s another bid that’s more likely.

“They’ve been looking at the books for quite some time now.

“By the way. I don’t think either bidder wanted to keep Rafa.

“I know for sure the group I’ve spoken to didn’t want Rafa.

“I suggested Gerrard to them. He’d set the place alight.”
