Reported Newcastle United set to sign Kyle Scott – Unlikely

According to reports on Tuesday morning, Kyle Scott is going to be Newcastle United’s first summer transfer window signing.

The 21 year old midfielder is the subject of an ‘exclusive’ in The Sun.

The newspaper claiming he will be the first signing of an ambitious summer under Rafa Benitez, with new owners set to take over.

If there is going to be a future featuring Rafa working under ambitious new owners, this would be a surprising signing.

Kyle Scott turns 22 in December and hasn’t shown anything to suggest he has what it takes to make it in the Premier League.

Indeed, he would look more like a typical Mike Ashley signing, available on a free as Chelsea are releasing the midfielder this summer.

No disgrace that he hasn’t made it at Chelsea with only a brief sub appearance in the FA Cup a year and a half ago the sum total of first team action.

One of dozens of Chelsea players out on loan this past season. Kyle Scott was playing in the Dutch second tier for Telstar, where he scored twice in 12 starts (plus 2 appearances from the bench).

Any first team squad recruits this summer, whoever owns the club or manages the team, must surely be brought in with the intention of raising the quality or at least matching it.

With the likes of Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey and Mohamed Diame all reported to be likely leavers, there needs to be some serious investment in that area of the team/squad.

Maybe the most interesting thing about Kyle Scott has is his international story. Born in Bath he has not only represented England at under-16 level, but also the Republic of Ireland at under-17 level and United States at both under-18 and under-20 level. In addition, he is also eligible to play for Italy.
