Prolific Newcastle United striker Elias Sorensen scores once again for his country on Monday
Elias Sorensen is at it again.
His form for Newcastle United has also seen Elias Sorensen’s international set-up take notice, the striker featuring for both Denmark’s Under 20s and Under 21s in recent months.
On Friday, Elias Sorensen scored in a 2-1 defeat by Iceland for the Danish Under 20s on Friday.
Now on Monday he has come on as a substitute for the Danish Under 20s against Norway and scored again, the 19 year old NUFC striker scoring in the 80th minute to pull it back to 3-2 but he couldn’t prevent another defeat.
Great to see him in such great form though and very interesting to see what the plan is for Elias Sorensen next season.
The prolific goalscorer was awarded the Wor Jackie Trophy for his efforts this season at NUFC, the award named after United great Jackie Milburn and every year a rising NUFC star is presented with it.
An impressive 20 goals for the NUFC second string sealing the deal.
After the season ended, Elias Sorensen was also nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award but lost out on that one.
However, on that same day (19 May 2019), Elias Sorensen was named player of the tournament in the Hong Kong Soccer Sevens. The striker scoring five of Newcastle’s ten goals in the tournament as NUFC retained their title.
The reality as well is that Sorensen could have been close to being a 30 goal striker this season, if not for Blackpool wasting most of the second half of the season with a loan spell that was ended early by NUFC.
Rafa Benitez wasn’t impressed at all when realising Newcastle didn’t insist on Blackpool giving Elias Sorensen pitch-time when going there on loan in January and recalled the 19 year old in March.
Newcastle United have now joined most other Premier league clubs in appointing staff (Shola Ameobi for NUFC) to now look after and manage where young Newcastle players go out on loan, as from this upcoming new season.
