Latest ‘Exclusive’ claiming Jose Mourinho Newcastle United link is painful

Jose Mourinho is once again the subject of an ‘Exclusive’ linking him to Newcastle United.

Last weekend The Mirror claimed they knew that if  Sheikh Khaled takes over Newcastle ‘Rafa Benitez faces the sack’ and stated that the potential new owners, have Jose Mourino and Arsene Wenger as their top managerial targets.

A week later and now they claim that through ‘friends’ of Jose Mourino they have found out that the out of work manager has said he would be interested in the Newcastle job.

Quite amazing that none of the newspapers have a clue as to what stage, if any, the takeover of Newcastle United is at, yet some newspapers will claim that they know who Sheikh Khaled would want as manager…

It would be a massive surprise if Jose Mourinho WASN’T interested in the Newcastle job if the club was taken over by wealthy ambitious new owners.

Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea and then despite being given as much money to spend as Pep Guardiola at Man City, he was sacked by man Utd having left an almighty mess behind him. Fortunes spent on so many players with bad attitudes and/or limited ability that saw them end up only sixth, 32 points off the top.

To back up this weekend’s story, The Mirror use quotes from Jose Mourinho talking about Newcastle United…’I like to go there. I like the feeling of going to Mr Robson’s home. I like that feeling. I like the stadium. I like the atmosphere. They are a good, enthusiastic crowd. I like the Geordies.’

If we are supposed to believes the credibility of their ‘exclusives’ then it would be less painful and might help them if they knew what they were quoting from…

The Mirror say that the quotes were from Jose Mouriho talking ‘last summer’ but the were actually from his press conference (see below) before he last managed a team coming to St James Park. His press conference on 9 February 2018 before the pivotal game on 11 February when Martin Dubravka made his NUFC debut and Newcastle won 1-0, setting them on their way to eventual safety that season.

Today’s ‘Exclusive’ from The Mirror:

‘EXCLUSIVE: Billionaire looking to buy Newcastle has Mourinho on his wish-list — and rock-star boss isn’t ruling it out

Jose Mourinho is ready to talk to Newcastle’s potential new owner if multi-billionaire Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan comes calling.

Advisors representing the Sheikh insists his £350million offer for the Premier League club is genuine, although their current owner Mike Ashley has yet to see any proof of the takeover funds.

As we exclusively revealed last weekend, Sheikh Khaled has his own managerial targets with Rafa Benitez’s Tyneside future still shrouded in doubt. One of them is former Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid boss Mourinho , who is aware of the interest and has told friends the Newcastle job is one that he would consider seriously.

He has always had a soft spot for the Geordies, since working with his mentor and Newcastle icon Bobby Robson at Sporting Lisbon, Porto and Barcelona in the 1990s.

Mourinho said last summer: “I like to go there. I like the feeling of going to Mr Robson’s home. I like that feeling. I like the stadium. I like the atmosphere. They are a good, enthusiastic crowd. I like the Geordies.

He insists he would be open to the challenge of managing a club that wasn’t among the elite but had the potential to eventually compete for trophies. The Portuguese believes Newcastle fit into that category.’

Jose Mourinho on 9 February 2018 asked about Newcastle United and never having won a Premier League match at St James Park:

“It’s true. I think it’s the only stadium in the PL. Also Huddersfield but only (managed a team in a game there) once.

“I think it’s difficult, honestly, I’ve always felt beautiful matches but difficult.

“I like to go there and like the feeling of going to Mr Robson’s home.

“I like St James Park, I think it’s really nice and the atmosphere.

“The fans are good and enthusiastic. I like the Geordies.

“I lost and drew a few times (at Newcastle in the Premier League).

“I hope the result is different but I know the characteristics of the game are not going to be different.

“Newcastle are a good team, they have had a very good (January) transfer window with Kenedy and Slimani – two players I know well and who can improve their team.

“Benitez knows how to get points.”
