Ant and Dec have given their reaction to the shock news of Rafa Benitez leaving Newcastle United.

The club having release a statement (see below) stating that after 30 June 2019, Rafa would be no longer manager.

Like all other Newcastle fans, it has only taken one word for Ant and Dec to sum it all up…’Disastrous.’

The pair have used their Twitter account to add a few more words though.

The Geordie duo stating that ‘those at the top’ should feel ashamed at what has happened.

As well as thanking Rafa Benitez, Ant and Dec sign off with: ‘Mike Ashley – get out of OUR club.’

Ant and Dec via their Twitter account:

“Disastrous.

“Those ‘at the top’ of our great club should be ashamed.

“The great shame is that they won’t be.

“The way they are repeatedly able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory is astonishing.

“Thank you Rafa Benitez.

“Mike Ashley – get out of OUR club.”

That official Newcastle United Statement:

‘It is with disappointment that we announce manager Rafael Benítez will leave Newcastle United upon the expiry of his contract on 30th June 2019.

We have worked hard to extend Rafa’s contract over a significant period of time, however it has not been – and will not be – possible to reach an agreement with Rafa and his representatives.

Rafa’s coaching staff, Paco de Míguel Moreno, Antonio Gómez Pérez and Mikel Antia, will also leave the club on 30th June.

We would like to thank Rafa and his coaching team for their efforts over the last three years and their significant contribution to what has been collectively achieved.

Looking back to May 2016 after relegation, Ant and Dec were big advocates of persuading Rafa Benitez to stay on…

Ant and Dec – 17 May 2016:

Want Rafa Benitez to stay?:

Ant:

“I hope so, please stay Rafa, please stay Rafa…”

Dec:

“I hope so, please stay Rafa…he is a  proper football manager that we have been crying out for here in the north east.

“So yes, I think we have a real chance if Rafa stays and can turn things around.

“We have got everything crossed, so let’s hope so.”
