After latest quotes the question is where would Ayoze Perez go?

New quotes from Ayoze Perez have appeared on Thursday morning.

The Newcastle United squad are back for pre-season in three weeks time and nothing appears to have really changed.

Ayoze Perez still saying he doesn’t know what he is going to do.

The former Tenerife player saying that whatever happens he loves Newcastle United etc etc…

He is a striker who divides Newcastle fans.

Those who point to what he does do (generally scoring goals and playing better later in the season), whilst others point to what he doesn’t do (play well and score any goals earlier in the season).

Last season couldn’t have summed it up better, only two goals scored in Newcastle’s first 22 Premier League games, then 10 goals in the final 16.

This followed the same pattern as previous seasons though not normally as many goals.

Overall his Premier League seasons have ended up:

2018/19 – 12 Premier League goals and 2 assists

2017/18 – 8 Premier League goals and 5 assists

2015/16 – 6 Premier League goals and 2 assists

2014/15 – 7 Premier League goals and 0 assists

In total, Ayoze Perez has scored 33 goals in 143 PL appearances and got 10 assists in his four Premier League seasons.

So where would that equal interest from elsewhere?

It appears obvious (at least to me) that he wants to play in La Liga next season and is waiting for a club to come in for him. Which then becomes a question of who would be interested?

The bottom line is that in Spain now, you have three clubs and the rest are nowhere.

In the five years Ayoze Perez has been at Newcastle, the same trio of clubs (Real Madrdid, Atletico, Barca) have filled the top three spaces.

Indeed you need to go all the way back to 2011/12 for any other club to break into that top three. Even then, it was a case of Real Madrid on 100 points, Barcelona 91 and Valencia 61, basically that season was a top two and the rest nowhere.

I think Ayoze Perez staying or going, depends on whether you believe Real Madrid, Barcelona or Atletico Madrid would be interested, as that is where I think Perez sees himself playing. If not, I reckon he will be staying at Newcastle United.

I know what I think about the chances of that La Liga top three being  interested in Ayoze Perez but I’m sure you are capable of deciding what side of the fence you are on…

Ayoze Perez speaking to the Chronicle and asked about what is going to happen this summer, whether he will stay at Newcastle:

“It is something that I cannot say right now.

“You cannot guarantee it, we will see.

“It’s going to be a long summer and obviously, there’s going to be a day where you make a decision.

“It depends on many things – let’s see what happens.

“Obviously, this place is always going to be in my heart, whatever happens. We’ll see what happens.

“It’s going to be a long summer, whatever can happen. I cannot guarantee anything, but we’ll see.

“But what I know is that I cannot thank enough Newcastle – the city, the club, everything around – for what they have given me.

“I came to a different world and I cannot thank Newcastle enough for what they gave me.

“It’s been five unbelievable years, ups and downs, unforgettable moments, bad moments, but it’s part of the process that made me a better footballer and person.

“Obviously, it’s always going to be in my heart, whatever happens. This place, this city, this club – everything is going to be in my heart forever.

“I’ve been here five years, which is a long time. Also the challenge that not many Spanish players have had success in this club.

“So all those challenges, I took them, and I think it’s been an amazing five years for myself, and I could grow up as a professional in this club.”
