19 Premier League clubs trying to sign players – 1 thinking about finding a new manager sometime
There are 19 Premier League clubs desperately trying to add as many better quality players to their squads as possible.
Meanwhile, with less than half the transfer window remaining and only six weeks before the new season kicks off, there is one club taking its time to find a new manager BEFORE they even start to look at signing news players.
Do you need any clues?
It will be interesting how history looks back on summer 2019 for Newcastle United.
The time which proved to be when Mike Ashley finally managed to slaughter his golden goose after choosing not to sell it whilst simultaneously wrecking the football club from the inside.
Or could it possibly be viewed with hindsight as all is well that ends well, the time that Ashley finally set the club free and new ambitious owners arrived to start the rebuilding process, onwards and upwards.
Newcastle United fans were increasingly desperate for news as the summer progressed and yet when the club have obliged, supporters were left wishing they hadn’t bothered.
Season ticket prices up, Mike Ashley charging more for the new home shirt than any other Premier League club is doing, then of course declaring that after today, Rafa Benitez will no longer be NUFC manager.
The messages in the media are all pointing towards an agreed takeover being further away, rather than rushing closer.
Even in the very best case scenario of decent owners taking over immediately and appointing Rafa or an equally credible manager, we would still be looking at a tough five or so weeks to get the club ready for the new season.
However, the messages via the media are that Newcastle won’t be appointing anybody in the very near future and are going to take their time etc etc, so where on earth that leaves signing players, reassuring the decent ones already here, as well as preparing that squad properly for the season ahead…
It is absolute chaos surely.
Newcastle fans are often accused of their blind loyalty to the club being their biggest weakness but that is very much being tested, with very strong signs that thousands and thousands of season ticket holders/regulars have been pushed too far this time.
As for anybody, Mike Ashley or whoever, having blind faith that everything will turn out alright in time for the start of the season in six weeks time…
Good luck with that one.
