Wor Flags getting emotional after Newcastle United fans break UK flag record
Newcastle United fans have stuck with the manager and players this season.
Despite reaching November without a single victory, the bond between supporters and a manager & squad trying their very best, despite the obstacles placed in front of them by the Mike Ashley regime, meant that everybody stuck together.
The belief in Rafa Benitez to eventually get things sorted, despite the lack of backing, proved correct. Performances and results improving as time went on.
As well as on the pitch, the pulling together off it, has seen some remarkable achievements on the terraces.
With key people at the heart of it making it happen, financially backed by the wider NUFC fanbase, the Wor Flags pre-match displays have been astonishing.
Reflecting back on this season, Wor Flags say they hope to top Saturday’s display, but you do have to wonder just how that will be possible!
Especially when you compare it to what happens elsewhere…

When I heard about the planned flag that would cover the entire Gallowgate End, my first thought was, this is just mad.
Then I did really wonder just how this is going to actually work on matchday v Liverpool. So much could go wrong with getting it successfully unveiled.
That’s the thing though…to have an idea is one thing, but to then stimulate the trust and interest of Newcastle fans to donate £15,000 is quite another, finally to then pull it off on the day, takes so much work and organisation.
Just look at this brilliant video from George Caulkin showing Saturday’s unveiling…

Wor Flags get a little emotional after Saturday’s stunning effort and look forward to even better in the future:
“Just a few sentimental soppy tweets from us, so please forgive!
“Saturday was a huge day for us as we aimed to smash the UK record for a flag.
“We really appreciate the reaction it has received as well.
“To DFDS for a place on the ship to Amsterdam and back. Superb service.
“You saved us around 1200 miles of driving (and costs) and we very much appreciate what you did for us
“To Templeman Retailing and Vending for letting us use their van!
“Mags pulling together when we asked for help a few weeks ago. Again, an incredible gesture.
“To Newcastle United and in particular Lee Marshall who has been brilliant with us since the start.
“They donated towards the costs of the trip to Poland, we can’t thank them enough and look forward to next season as we attempt to go bigger and better.
“And finally, to everyone who donated and has helped us throughout the last few years.
“Yesterday [Saturday] was a display we have wanted to do for some time and we couldn’t have done it without the donations of fans.
“We are completely fan funded so massively appreciate the support!
“We can’t wait for next season and are now moving on to planning for the next display.
“Howay the Lads!”
