Earlier today we asked: ‘As a Newcastle fan, do you want Sunderland to win League One play-off final?’

This is how we set out the argument/decision:

‘It is the League One play-off final on Sunday afternoon.

A welcome respite for Newcastle fans wondering how it can take so long to confirm Rafa Benitez is sticking around.

Monday sees the Championship play-off to decide whether Derby County or Aston Villa will be the 20th Premier league club next season buyt of course there is ‘local’ interest in today’s match.

So as a Newcastle fan, who do you want to see win?

Guessing that pretty much everybody found it somewhere between amusing and hilarious that Sunderland managed to ‘win’ consecutive relegations as the very rock bottom club.

Especially after so many mackems had bizarrely claimed that it was actually failure for Rafa Benitez in 2016/17, due to not winning promotion earlier and only being confirmed as champions on the very final day of the season.

However, after the initial laughs that everybody shares, there as been a bit of a divide.

Many Newcastle fans would be happy to see Sunderland rot in the third tier (or lower…) for decades to come BUT others would like to see the Mackems now making their way back eventually to the Premier League (the main reason seemingly being missing the derby matches), having taken their punishment/embarrassment.

So who will you be ‘supporting’ this afternoon?’

The votes are now counted and it is almost exactly a three to one decision, thanks to everybody (1,318 Newcastle fans) who took the time to vote in our snap poll:

324 (24.58%) Yes, want Sunderland to beat Charlton

994 (75.42%) No, want Sunderland to lose to Charlton
