Very surprising Liverpool fans comments before Newcastle United match

Liverpool fans came down to earth with a severe bump on Wednesday night.

A 3-0 defeat to Barcelona seemingly ending any hopes of a first European trophy since some Spanish bloke masterminded one back in the day.

Actually it was only the final 16 minute where there was cause for any real pessimism.

Until the 75th minute the scousers had been at least as good as Barca, when it came to the stats and certainly clear chances, only for Messi to seemingly put the tie beyond them with two late goals, one with an element of luck and the other due to genius. I suppose you don’t get to score 600 goals for one club without a lot of the latter.

Looking at the comments from Liverpool fans below, the fallout fromm Wednesday night has provoked some very surprising/strange/bizarre comments…

My favourite has to be: ‘I am pretty deflated and just want the season to end now.’

Yes, Man City and Barcelona are favourites but if Liverpool win these last two games and Man City fail to win either of the final two, they will win the Premier League. Yes Man City are very good but this season they have already failed to win games against Wolves, Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Chelsea, Liverpool and Leicester, the Foxes being one of the teams they (Man City) still have to play.

Also find it surprising that a fair few Liverpool fans think their team may lose to Newcastle, or at least not win, seen as the scousers have only lost one PL game all season and that was at Man City, it is a bit over the top. Not that you want to see arrogance/over-confidence but Liverpool had gone 20 games (all competitions) without a defeat, before Barcelona in midweek.

Liverpool fans commenting via their top This is Anfield message board:

‘I am pretty deflated and just want the season to end now.

However, I desperately hope we at least take City to the final weekend.

I have a feeling Newcastle will do us 1-0, whilst Leicester whilst somehow hold City to a draw just to beat us into the ground that little bit more.’

‘This will be a good test of our character and I fully expect a good response.

Beat Newcastle and let’s see if Rodgers can conjure up something on Monday night.

I was thinking earlier in the week that a thumping win combined with Leicester beating City, might swing goal difference our way enough to make even a draw on the last day a possible title winner.

But really we just need any win, ideally a comfortable one so the players can see it out without having to press forward with urgency in the final quarter.’

‘I hope we take our anger and frustration from Wednesday night out on Newcastle because this is not going to be an easy game and we will need to be on it to get a result.’

‘Tough place to go, spirits likely dampened by the Barca result. Hopefully Klopp can inspire the troops. It certainly felt like an easier game pre-Barca, but a lot can change in a day.

At least Newcastle are safe, and may already mentally be on the beach. We’ll see.’

‘Not won here for a few years.

Lets hope Rafa asks them to roll over.’

‘Nah, I don’t think Newcastle will take it lightly.

They’re well organized, we are one of the league’s two best sides so that’s a motivating factor.

Rafa is a pro, they’re quite good when they don’t have that pressure, playing at home, positive results lately and goals scored. They will still keep their trusted system/way of playing of late.

A number of them are maybe playing with their futures in mind, Rafa might not be there anymore soon, there could be a change, players could be offloaded or ask for a move. They did change one or two players in their last game though.

Up to us to expect a bouncing St. James’ Park, still a well organized deep block and to break it down. The next two games we absolutely have to win and both teams have decent or very good counter attacking. So need to be fully focused, patient, play with quality and end product needs to be seriously better than Wednesday night.’

‘It’s a must win game again.

But we have only won once in the last 6 visits to Newcastle. Plus it’s their last home game so they will want to go out with a bang. And they have Rafa.

This won’t be easy.’

‘Forget what happened Wednesday night, forget about what is to come on Tuesday. Get the job done against Rafa’s boys and then worry about other things. If we don’t win this, it’s all over.’

‘This is definitely our biggest game of the season so far; it’s a must-win game with the potential to be a real banana skin. Still, if we can’t beat this lot then we don’t deserve to win the League.

Fu.. those fat, shirtless, shaven headed w..kers.

Rafa: what have you done for us since Istanbul? Fu.. all.

Roll over- it’s what you’d do against City.’

‘Could finish us this. Lads are bound to be down after Wednesday night and it remains to be seen how much it’s taken out of us physically.

Think we’ll need Shaqiri to open up a defensive Newcastle.

This is as ‘must win’ as it gets. If we do I honestly think City could fu.. up on Monday. One last push Reds.’

‘Imagine feeling like we’re almost dumped out the CL to only be handed the league this weekend.

As much as Newcastle are in form so are Leicester. This is the big Kahuna. I think we will beat Newcastle, and Leicester will draw with City.

If that turns out, its a whole other scenario for Barca. Belief is everything, even if in hindsight we fail, you simply cannot have a chance of winning without belief.’

‘I fully expect to see an angry mob out there going all out to destroy Newcastle.’

Rondon usually seems to play well against us, apparently Perez might be injured which is a boost as they’ve both linked up well this season. Just hope we can get a couple of early goals to calm the nerves.’

‘We’re playing late because it was the only TV slot once the match was moved from Sunday. It’s exactly in the middle of the two Barce matches, so the best we could hope for.

We get a full day to fuel up and warm up, before an evening kick off. Imagine if we’d played at noon?’

‘Playing half the game up hill at SJP is no fun after playing 90+ minutes on a massive Nou Camp. If we lose the toss, Newcastle will make us run uphill in the 2nd half.’

‘As I watched Newcastle play last week, I thought I heard the play by play man say that since December no other team outside the top six has a better record.’

‘This is the most important game of the season, well at least it will be until the next one. It’s an absolutely must win game. Expect no favours from Rafa and his barcodes, it’s going to be a tough match, especially so since we haven’t won there in the last four visits.’

‘Forget what happened during the week. We need to focused, angry and ready. I know it is against Rafa’s team, but, we have to be reactive.

We are nearly there to the most points ever. Let’s do this.’

‘This is looking a much tougher game than it did a few weeks back. Newcastle are in solid mid-table form. Good at home, hard to score against. I don’t think we can rely on Rafa doing us any favours. The great man probably thinks he’s done enough already by beating City.

If ever our lads heads are going to go down it could be tonight.’

‘Have to make sure we aren’t out of the blocks too slowly for this one and/or half asleep. Saw the last four games form guide for us at Newcastle and it didn’t make for great reading. Hopefully that isn’t a bad omen.’
