Tony Pulis leaves Middlesbrough – Former Newcastle United star set to replace him
Tony Pulis has parted company with Middlesbrough.
After missing out on the play-offs by a point, Steve Gibson has made his move.
Sky Sports and others have reported the departure.
With Middlesbrough themselves then putting out their own official statement confirming the news.
Interesting to see who they bring in now.
The Mail are reporting that they understand that Jonathan Woodgate is to get the job.
The former Newcastle and Real Madrid star is currently first team coach at Middlesbrough.
Despite only playing 28 times for their club, many/most Newcastle fans rate Woodgate as the best defender they have seen in the black and white.
Sadly, injury intervened in his time at St James Park, as it did in much of his career.
A brilliant and cultured defender, interesting to see if he can reflect that in his management style if getting the chance.
The Mail report:
‘Tony Pulis has left Middlesbrough after narrowly missing out on a place in the Championship play-offs.
The former West Brom boss parted company with the club after having dinner with chairman Steve Gibson in London on Wednesday.
First team coach Jonathan Woodgate is expected to take over.’
