The 10 Newcastle United players now looking for new clubs – If Rafa Benitez stays
Big changes ahead for Newcastle United this summer.
A squad that is desperately need of an overhaul.
There are a core group of Newcastle United players that the manager knows he can rely on but the squad is then made up of individuals with no future here.
I have no doubt that there are others Rafa Benitez will be happy to move on if he gets offers for them but so long as he signs an extension, these are 10 players who Rafa, if at all possible, will be offloading this summer…
Rob Elliot – One year left on his contract and totally frozen out of first team plans, Rafa has already previously said he needs to find another club. Last started a Premier League match in December 2017.
Joselu – Only one year left on his contract as well. Only one Premier League start since September 2018 and didn’t even make the bench in the final months of the season.
Jack Colback – Amazingly, we found out he was given a ridiculous six year contract back in 2014. Still has one year left and whilst a successful loan season at Forest suggests he should be able to find a new club this summer, Newcastle will probably have to let him go for nothing so a new Championship club can afford his wages. The player admits himself that he has no future at Newcastle with Rafa.
Henri Saivet – Only three PL starts in total at Newcastle and only one under Rafa back in December 2017 at West Ham, when there was an injury crisis. Bursaspor have two games left and if they win this weekend against a relegation rival, they should stay up. Their manager has indicated he wants to keep Saivet, with two years left on his NUFC deal it would be a boost for Rafa if he can offload him.
Achraf Lazaar – Impressed everybody at Sheffield Wednesday despite only three starts, as injury struck. Has shown he can handle that level so every chance a deal can be done with Wednesday or a similar club to offload him, is another with two years left on his Newcastle contract.
Rolando Aarons – Same story as Lazaar but he managed six starts before injury. Also has two years left at NUFC but after impressing at the Owls, he should at last get a permanent move and football elsewhere.
Mohamed Diame – Rafa Benitez has ensured that the midfielder fell one PL start short of getting an automatic one year extra at NUFC. Unless the manager doesn’t stay, Diame is definitely on his way.
Ciaran Clark – Only nine PL starts this season but fourth top scorer (three goals)! Hasn’t started a PL game since 12 January and only named on the bench three times. Turns 30 in September and has only one year left on his deal, Rafa will move him out and NUFC will bank a few quid, a player too good not to be playing regular football.
Jonjo Shelvey – Started the last two games after not being selected since 3 November 2018. Found ideal set-up on Sunday against a very open Fulham and scored a rare goal. A player who needs to move on and one that Rafa is happy to trade, especially as he will generate very decent cash for incoming deals. Two years left on his contract.
Karl Darlow – Had been dropped by Rafa in the past and once Dubravka arrived, Darlow hasn’t started a single Premier League game. Turns 29 in October and with only one year left on his deal, the manager is set to sell him this summer and introduce a keeper of his choosing to compete with Martin Dubravka and Freddie Woodman.
