Salomon Rondon and Newcastle United ‘target’ Jan Carlos Hurtado named in Copa America squad
Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon has been named in Venezuela’s preliminary squad for the 2019 Copa America.
Head coach Rafael Dudamel named 40 players in total and this will be then reduced to 23 players on 2 June, to then take part in the tournament.
Exciting 19 year striker Jan Carlos Hurtado has also been named in this preliminary 40 man squad. Argentine media reported at the end of April that Newcastle had allegedly made an approach for the teenager, ahead of a potential bid this summer.
The Copa America will be played in Brazil from June 14 to July 7 and Venezuela have been drawn in Group A alongside Brazil, Bolivia and Peru.
Before then, Venezuela will play four friendlies against Trinidad and Tobago (28 May), the United States (9 June), Mexico (6 June) and Ecuador (2 June).
Their opening match of the tournament is against Peru in Porto Alegre on 15 June.
Meanwhile, Miguel Almiron has been pictured this week back in light training after injury, he is expected to be ok to be involved with Paraguay, who have been drawn in a group with Colombia, Argentina and Qatar.
