Prolific Elias Sorensen goals fire Newcastle United into final of Hong Kong Soccer Sevens – Video

Elias Sorensen has fired Newcastle United into the final of the 2019 Hong Kong Soccer Sevens.

The prolific Dane grabbing both goals in the semi-final against local side Kitchee.

Newcastle United have so far been faultless as they look to defend their title, played five – won four and drawn one (a group game after already qualified) and not conceded a single goal so far.

The NUFC Under 23s will play Glasgow Rangers in the final, a replay of last year’s final when they beat the Scottish club with a dramatic golden goal (having beaten Leicester with one in the semi-final as well.

Glasgow Rangers beat West Ham 1-0 in their semi-final and if Newcastle are successful, it will be the third time they have lifted the trophy after previous success in 2012 and 2018.

After a goalless first half, two goals from Elias Sorensen after the break took Newcastle into today’s final.

Newcastle v Rangers is Scheduled to be played 5.25pm local time (10.25am UK time) but games have been running late.

Elias Sorensen interviewed after the semi-final win, what an accent, surely born and bred on Tyneside rather than in Denmark!

On Saturday the young Magpies cruised through their group, finishing top, clear by three points.

Single goal wins over local side Kerry Yau Yee League Select and Japanese team Kashima Antlers (see the goals HERE), followed by a goalless draw with Brighton.

Just before 11am local time this morning (4am UK time), Newcastle faced Portuguese outfit Portimonense in their quarter-final.

Another excellent performance saw United progress, with a goal in each half.

A very composed Elias Sorensen scoring from the penalty spot and then a brilliant solo effort from Tom Allan saw him run from the edge of his own box and round the keeper, watch both goals below.

An NUFC squad of 10 travelled – Harker, Bailey, Watts, Cass, (M) Longstaff, Longelo, Sorensen, Allan, Walters, Charman

(Group games were seven minutes each way, rising to 10 minutes each way in Sunday’s knockout games)
