Each player marked out of 10 and the averages below.

Newcastle gave it their all against Liverpool but the luck…and match officials, were against them.

An absolute clear man of the match in Salomon Rondon (8.6). Led the line brilliantly, scored one and denied another by deliberate handball on the line.

Three other Newcastle player were rated by fans at 7.0 or higher, with Matt Ritchie (7.6) the closest to Rondon, a great display defending and attacking from the winger/wing-back.

Isaac Hayden (7.1) is a model of consistency, mixing it really well with the expensively assembled Liverpool midfield.

Paul Dummett (7.0) with the fourth highest rating, Newcastle’s best defender on a night that wasn’t great for others in the defence.

Speaking of which, Jamaal Lascelles (4.4) was the very lowest rated, totally losing van Dijk for the opener and should have done better with Origi for the winner.

The other six players were all rated in the 6.somethings.

The highest of those was Ayoze Perez (6.8) who worked hard and almost scored a spectacular goal, only to be denied by the woodwork.

Javier Manquillo (6.6) had a decent game, getting up and down the right hand side against his former club.

Christian Atsu (6.5) scored and had the odd other moment of quality but still struggles to make a significant impact.

Martin Dubravka (6.3) did pretty well most of the game but could maybe have done better on the winning goal.

At the back Fabian Schar (6.2) wasn’t at his best, though not helped by Lascelles having a shocker next to him.

Completing the eleven was Ki Sung-yeung (6.1) who didn’t really give Hayden enough help in the middle of the pitch.
