Newcastle United interested in signing David Okereke – Report
David Okereke is the latest player to be linked with a summer move to Newcastle United.
The 21 year old attacking player can play through the middle or as a wide player and has swapped between the two for Spezia Calcio this past season.
He has been attracting a lot of attention from clubs in both Serie A and overseas, including Wolves and Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
David Okereke has come through the ranks at Spezia Calcio who play in the Italian second tier (Serie B).
His progress has been remarkable this season, after spending last year on loan at third tier Cosenza where he scored only four league goals, this season he has scored ten and got twelve assists in 31 Serie B games.
David Okereke will turn 22 in August and has another three years to run on his current deal but Spezia Calcio play in front of only five thousand crowds and with a valuation of £8m on the striker, both club and player will find it hard to turn down transfer fee, far higher wages and opportunity this summer.
The forward’s progress also caught the attention of is country and in March, Okereke got his first senior call up for Nigeria.
After the success of picking up Ayoze Perez from the Spanish second tier, it would be no surprise if we see further signings of young players from outside the top divisions of other countries, especially if Rafa Benietz decides to not stick around.
