Mike Ashley now fully aware of Salomon Rondon position – No excuses now

Has Salomon Rondon already played his last ever game for Newcastle United?

The striker topping off an excellent season, his eleventh Premier League goal (as well as seven assists) with almost the final kick of the season at Fulham on Sunday, combined with yet another man of the match performance.

Tuesday night though has brought further clarity to the position surrounding Salomon Rondon’s position.

Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, West Brom took the lead at the Hawthorns to bring the aggregate scores level. A daft red card for Chris Brunt on 80 minutes then meant a rearguard action for the Baggies, a decent effort to see out the remaining 10 minutes and 30 minutes of extra time without further goals.

Dwight Gayle had to sit this game out due to an unlucky red card in the first leg and fellow NUFC loan player Jacob Murphy took his place. subbed after 82 minutes, Murphy’s display summed up his loan spell in general – poor to average.

Seeing their first two penalties saved wasn’t a great start and West Brom went on to lose 4-3 in the shootout.

More importantly, it means Mike Ashley and Newcastle United know where they are now with Salomon Rondon.

If West Brom had been promoted, a release clause of £20m+ (some reports said as much as £25m) would have become active.

However, we now all know that the buying price for Rondon is £16.5m maximum, if a bid goes in at that price then if the player agrees to a move, a transfer will happen.

Whatever the situation with Rafa Benitez, there is no excuse for Mike Ashley now not to press the button and meet the release clause.

The summer transfer window is only hours away, after midnight tonight, Premier League clubs can sign players until 5pm on Thursday 8 August 2019.

Mike Ashley already knows the personal terms Salomon Rondon wants.

Two and a half months ago the striker went public (see below) saying he’d had meetings with the club and stated: ‘They [Newcastle United/ Mike Ashley] know what I want and what my family want. I have spoken with them and made it clear. If there is an opportunity for me to be here, I will stay here 100%. If not I will say thank you to everybody and see what happens next.’

Salomon Rondon wants ‘100%’ to stay at Newcastle United.

No excuses for Mike Ashley now.

The Mag – 4 March 2019:

Salomon Rondon talking to the Chronicle:

“They [Newcastle United/ Mike Ashley] know what I want and what my family want.

“I have spoken with them and made it clear.

“If there is an opportunity for me to be here, I will stay here 100%.

“If not I will say thank you to everybody and see what happens next.

“I don’t think so [when asked about claims that Newcastle had tried to make deal into permanent signing in January].

“I was focused on games in December and January, as there were many, many games.

“I have left it all to my agent.

“It’s a pleasure to be here and my family are settled and happy to be here, I play with the number nine on my back and it is a pleasure for me.

“I am still on loan but if I get to stay here then I’ll be at a beautiful place.

“If not I will say thank you and wish you all luck for the future.

“I love being here…being here is great for me, I am settled here.

“I will be trying to score more goals and then we will see what happens in the future, I’m only on loan so you never know what happens.

“If I could stay many years here I’d love to, I love wearing the number nine and scoring goals for the team.”
