Michael Owen predicts Newcastle v Liverpool
Michael Owen has been previewing Saturday night’s game at St James Park.
The team that he loved playing for visiting the one he loved making lots of money from.
Whilst Liverpool need to win to stay in the title race, a Newcastle victory would see the Magpies end their home campaign with seven wins from their last eight at St James Park. Considering that Rafa’s team only won two of the first 10 at home, that would represent an astonishing turnaround.
Especially seen as it would make them the only team to beat both Manchester City and Liverpool this season.
However, Michael Owen believes ‘It would be fitting this season if the title race went right down to the wire’. and predicts both Man City and Liverpool to win this weekend.
In fact Owen tips Liverpool to win by at least two goals on Saturday night, before expecting Man City to beat Leicester at the Etihad on Monday night.
As well as the recent home form for NUFC, Michael Owen points out that Newcastle have only lost one of their last six games at St James Park against Liverpool. It is actually one defeat in the last seven, with the Magpies winning four and drawing two.
The overall PL record for Newcastle v Liverpool games at St James Park is: Played 23 Won 10 Drawn 6 Lost 7.
Newcastle fans will think it fitting that the home campaign is rounded off with yet another victory.
What a loaded game in so many ways though. This could well be Rafa’s last ever Newcastle home match and could coincide with him potentially being responsible for his old club winning their first ever title of the Premier League era.
Little wonder that this will be the 19th Newcastle United Premier League of the season shown on live TV.
Michael Owen talking to BetVictor:
“Liverpool have it all to do as they try and overturn a three-goal deficit from the 1st leg of their Champions League semi-final with Barcelona midweek.
“But they cannot get ahead of themselves and must win at St James’ Park on Saturday as they try and keep the pressure on Manchester City in the race for the PL title.
“The Reds were, arguably, unlucky not to find the back of the Barca net on at least one occasion midweek but they can’t afford to feel sorry for themselves.
“I expect Jurgen Klopp to have them fired up for the trip to a Newcastle side who did, of course, beat City 2-1 at home earlier on the season.
“The Magpies have only lost one of their last six home league games against the Reds and won’t go down without a fight.
“But I feel it would be fitting this season if the title race went right down to the wire.
“Tip: Liverpool -1 (11/10)”
