Newcastle fans are desperate for news of Mike Ashley and Rafa Benitez reaching agreement on a new contract for the manager.

Rafa seeing his current deal set to end on 30 June 2019.

There is general acceptance across the media that the two of them met on Thursday (16 May) in London.

However, since then only very half-hearted stuff from the local and national media claiming anything of substance has happened since that London meet up.

Tuesday has brought claims though, from Italy..

Rafa Benitez had been linked with a possible third job in Serie A (he’s already managed at Inter and Napoli) but now Tuttosport are reporting that those hopes are now at an end.

Tuttosport with very dubious claims that agreement has supposedly been reached between Rafa Benitez and Mike Ashley.

The dubious Italian media reporting that Ashley has allegedly agreed to back the manager with significant transfer investment and that both owner and manager have a joint aim of bringing European football to Newcastle as soon as possible.

This dodgy Italian media report reading like a wish list for Newcastle fans, at least in the absence of Mike Ashley instead selling the club.

Ironically, this story has appeared whilst the local/national journalists covering NUFC have been playing an 11 a side match at St James Park, at the club’s invitation.
