Good news as Miguel Almiron back to fitness and full training – Photos
Miguel Almiron made an instant impact at Newcastle United.
His ten PL appearances saw five wins, two draws and only three defeats, that run of form helping to carry NUFC to early Premier League.
His season was brought to a premature end though, picking up a hamstring injury against Southampton on 20 April.
There were concerns he might even miss this summers Copa America but they have proved unfounded.
Paraguayan journalist Roberto Rojas has provided an update and revealed that Miguel Almiron is back to full fitness now and training with the rest of the Paraguay squad (see below).
On top of that, we have other good news. Miguel Almiron is 100% fit and is training with ease with the Paraguay NT for their Copa America camp. #NUFC https://t.co/4PgeHtMBCU

The Copa America kicks off for Almiron’s national side on 16 June with a group game against Qatar, then Argentina (20 June) and Colombia (23 June).
The tournament doesn’t end until 7 July, so it could be a case of Almiron heading straight from international duty to link up with the Newcastle squad for pre-season, missing even the start of that (NUFC squad meet for pre-season on 2 July) unless Paraguay are knocked out of the Copa America early on.
Ahead of the Copa America, Paraguay have to name a final 23 man squad by 30 May at the latest, then have a friendly against Honduras on 5 June. Another pre-tournament game against Guatemala is pencilled in for 9 June but has not been officially confirmed as yet.
Salomon Rondon is also set to take part in the Copa America with Venezuela.
The Mag – 21 April 2019:
Rafa Benitez:
“He (Miguel Almiron) was working very hard and it is not easy for a player who was doing well in another country, at a massive club in front of 52,000 fans, to then get injured and maybe have to be out for the rest of the season.
“It is his first injury of this type.
“He was doing well and the fans love him.
“It is a hamstring injury but we will have to see how he is.
“We will have to speak with the doctor and see how he reacts.”
