Excellent 2-0 Newcastle United win into Hong Kong Soccer Sevens semis – Watch the goals here

It is the 2019 Hong Kong Soccer Sevens and Newcastle United have so far been faultless as they look to defend their title.

Newcastle United’s under 23s won the Hong Kong Soccer Sevens in 2012 and then repeated that success in May 2018.

They beat Leicester City in the semis in 2018 and Glasgow Rangers in the final, both matches high drama as United won with a golden goal in both games.

On Saturday the young Magpies cruised through their group, finishing top, clear by three points.

Single goal wins over local side Kerry Yau Yee League Select and Japanese team Kashima Antlers, followed by a goalless draw with Brighton.

Just before 11am local time (4am UK time), Newcastle faced Portuguese outfit Portimonense in their quarter-final.

Another excellent performance saw United progress, with a goal in each half.

A very composed Elias Sorensen scoring from the penalty spot and then a brilliant solo effort from Tom Allan saw him run from the edge of his own box and round the keeper, watch both goals below.

Four matches gone and Nathan Harker yet to concede a goal.

Newcastle United play local side Kitchee in the semi-final and this scheduled to be played around 3.15pm local time (8.15am UK time). Although games do appear to be running a bit later than scheduled.

An NUFC squad of 10 travelled – Harker, Bailey, Watts, Cass, (M) Longstaff, Longelo, Sorensen, Allan, Walters, Charman

(Group games were seven minutes each way, rising to 10 minutes each way in Sunday’s knockout games)

Newcastle United 1 Kerry Yau Yee League Select 0

Newcastle United 1 Kashima Antlers 0

Newcastle United 0 Brighton 0

Newcastle United 2 Portimonense 0

Newcastle United v Kitchee (scheduled to be played around 8.15am UK time)
