Everton fans comments on buying former Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic – Interesting

Everton fans have reacted to news of their club’s reported pursuit of Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Sky Sports revealing/claiming that the Merseyside club are going to try and buy the former Newcastle United forward.

Not difficult to see why Everton are looking for a centre-forward.

Midfielder Sigurdsson and wide player Richarlison scored 13 Premier League goals each this season but as for central strikers, Tosun got only three in 25 PL appearances and Calvert-Lewin six in 35 PL appearances.

Mitrovic scored 11 goals and got three assists during Fulham’s desperate season, so little wonder clubs will be looking at him.

Interesting to see what Everton fans are saying below, for and against the Serbian striker, especially as they pretty much mirror what Newcastle still argue about to this day…

Also, what exactly is the valuation for Mitrovic now, having left Newcastle for £22m (rising to £27m potentially) only last summer?

Everton fans comment via their Grand Old Team message board:

‘Here you go lads, just in case there was any doubt how horrific Mitrovic is.

Its like people forget that he had about 20 chances to score versus us and missed every single 1.’

‘We can easily buy something higher quality than Mitrovic but they carry the risk of being an absolute flop because they can’t adjust to the PL and if we’re spending decent money on a striker maybe they’ll want a safety net of having played in the Prem with names like Mitrovic and Batushayi being bandied around.’

‘No way we buying Mitrovic

It isnt 2016 guys.’

‘Be quite happy with Mitrovic, 11 goals and 3 assists in an awful Fulham side. Be interesting to see him with better players around him.’

‘Although his Premiership record isn’t great, 23 in 47 for Serbia and 36 in 69 for Anderlecht are decent returns. He’d certainly be an upgrade on Tosun and Niasse. Just 24 years of age as well.’

‘People on here are strange. I don’t think Mitrovic would be a bad signing at all, he gives something different and in this day and age his price isn’t going to be ridiculous at all, Fulham have no bargaining power whatsoever. He’s also still very young.

People bringing up stats to suit their argument and saying he’s terrible before he’s even signed nevermind kicked a ball for us.’

‘Mitrovic on his day can be an absolute handful but how often these days come around is in question for me. Away against decent sides he will be a liability on the half way line and really struggle with a counter attack approach.

I think people have a got a right to be disappointed if they don’t like a player we’re signing. Being a fan doesn’t mean you have to happy clap along.’

‘Mitrovic is better than Tosun.’

‘Really not sure about mitrovic. I would have thought abstaining in the winter window would enable us to aim for something higher.’

‘Mitrovic not good enough for me, not consistent either.

If there is any truth in it, I expect his PL experience and physical attributes will be seen as plus factors, as there is always the risk in buying from abroad.

I don’t think Fulham could demand anything significantly more than what they paid for him either, and he probably has a relegation clause in his contract there.

He is “not bad” but for where we are and what we need, that isn’t near good enough.

I’d rather Brands trusts his gut instinct on perhaps more of an unknown quantity rather than going for a convenient but average option.

Mitrovic would bag us a few goals here and there but I can’t ever see him developing into the sort of player that would be coveted by the bigger teams, or propel us towards them.’

‘I’m much less worried by the 1-in-4 goals/shots on goal ratio than the 1-in-3 shots on goal/shots ratio

I assume they check his vision when they do a medical or do they jump straight to heart defects and former knee injuries?’

‘Mitrovic scored 11 goals (ten penalties) – I’d bring him on for penalties but not sure I’d want to have a “non-scoring” centre forward.’

‘I think you mean 10 non-penalties. He’s never been a big penalty taker. His converion rate is bad, but he also takes a TON of shots. It’s odd, he gets just as many shots on target as several other comparable players – his shot accuracy is fine.

Statistically, if you look at what he did at Newcastle and the Championship, his past year might have been an outlier – it doesn’t seem like his conversion rate has ever been that bad.

Mitro isn’t that bad. He can hold the ball up better than DCL and he’s a better goal scorer.

He’s much stronger, much better with the ball, but he’s pretty slow. It would hurt our press a bit. Unless he’s cheap, I just don’t see it happening.’

‘For the money Fulham would ask for Mitrovic (he cost them £22m last summer) there’s no way we would pay for him and some “marquee” striker.’
