Warning of Metro problems for fans travelling to Newcastle v Southampton today
Metro services are set to be disrupted today for Newcastle v Southampton.
Fans travelling to the match should allow for this when gauging what time to start their journey to St James Park.
This is due to ongoing work to modernise/improve the Metro services.
Nexus have also said that passengers should be aware that Newcastle fans travelling to the home game against Liverpool (Saturday 4 May currently but likely to be moved to 7.45pm on Saturday 4 May) will also be affected by the ongoing work.
Nexus have released the following information:
Fans who are travelling to the NUFC home games against Southampton and Liverpool are advised to allow extra time for journeys due to some planned Metro line closures south of the Tyne.
Nexus, the public body which runs the Metro, is carrying out a programme of track replacement work in Gateshead.
On Saturday April 20 (Southampton H) there will be no Metro services running between Gateshead Stadium and Hebburn/Brockley Whins.
On Saturday May 4 (Liverpool H) there will no Metro services running between Monument and Hebburn/Brockley Whins.
Extra replacement bus services, 900 and 901, will be in operation to help fans get into the centre of Newcastle.
Anyone who has got a Magpie Mover pass can use it to travel on any local bus services.
A Nexus spokesman said:
“We’re sorry if anyone is inconvenienced by our planned modernisation works over these weekends.
“We try to avoid works clashing with home games but given the scale of the investment we are carrying out this is not always possible for us to do this.
“Fans should plan ahead and make sure they leave enough time to get a replacement bus service into Newcastle.”
