Transfer cost of 10 most expensive Newcastle United players very different to 10 most used

An interesting table was published this morning, showing the transfer fees paid for the 10 most used Newcastle United players this season.

This was shown to be a total of only £38.8m, lower than all but two of the other 19 Premier League clubs (see below).

The 10 most used Newcastle United players with most PL starts this season being:

Dubravka (£4m), Ritchie (£12m), Perez (£1.8m), Lascelles (£4m), Yedlin (£5m), Rondon (Loan), Diame (£5m), Schar (£3m), Hayden (£4m) and Dummett (£0).

I thought I would have a look to see how the 10 most expensive Newcastle United players would compare to the list above. Players still registered with NUFC, even if they are not in the team or even out on loan.

This is the list I came up with:

£21m Almiron

£13m Shelvey

£12m Ritchie

£10m Gayle

£10m Murphy

£9.5m Muto

£8.9m Lejeune

£6m Fernandez

£6m Atsu

£5m Saivet

A total for the 10 Newcastle United players of £101.4m. A major contrast to the £38.8m for the most used.

For a number of clubs there was a similar disparity in that table this morning, with for example Brighton below Newcastle with only £37m on their 10 most used players, big signings not making the team for various reasons.

The Mag – Earlier Today (Tuesday 16 April 2019):

Some stunning stats have been put together for Premier League clubs this season.

Journalist Daniel Storey looking at the 10 most regular starters for each PL club so far this season.

Then putting together the transfer cost for each of the Premier League clubs when bringing in those 10 particular players.

No surprise to see who is at the top of this particular table…

£429m Man City

£343m Man Utd

£325m Chelsea

£316m Liverpool

£248m Arsenal

However, once again (relatively) big credit to £161m Tottenham, who are lower with their most regular 10 PL starters than Everton (£181m).

As you can see, for Newcastle United, they are in 18th spot with a £38m  transfer fee cost for the 10 most regular NUFC players this season, only £1m higher than Brighton with Cardiff (£13m) rock bottom.

However, showing just what Rafa Benitez has been up against due to Mike Ashley’s refusal to allow proper investment. As well as Everton £181m, you have West Ham £108m, Wolves £106m, Palace £105m, then Leicester £89m and Bournemouth £79m.

The likes of Burnley, Fulham and Huddersfield all higher as well.

The 10 Newcastle United players with most PL starts this season are:

34 Dubravka (£4m)

31 Ritchie (£12m)

30 Perez (£1.8m)

29 Lascelles (£4m)

28 Yedlin (£5m)

26 Rondon (Loan)

23 Diame (£5m)

18 Schar (£3m)

17 Hayden (£4m)

17 Dummett (£0)

Making a total of £38.8m for the ten of them.
