The Geordie Schadenfreude is now overflowing

The Schadenfreude for Newcastle fans is coming in from all angles.

Just in case you aren’t totally sure of its meaning,Schadenfreude is the ‘Pleasure derived by someone from another’s misfortune.’

It is a nice change because usually as Newcastle fans, we have plenty people who are getting more than their fill of Schadenfreude at our ongoing misfortunes.

Not that our worries are exactly over but at the minute we can enjoy the miseries of others as we await to see what happens with Rafa Benitez and NUFC as a whole.

So who are we getting our Schadenfreude from?

Here are a few off the top of my head:

Mike Ashley

Seeing business deals go wrong for the FCB and him losing loads of dosh takes some beating.

Any number of setbacks but Sports Direct losing the £150m Mike Ashley had foolishly ploughed into Debenhams takes some beating.

Sunderland

Told by Mackems that it was actually failure when Rafa got Newcastle promoted as champions in 2017 (apparently NUFC needed to have won it by a bigger margin and earlier in the season for it to count as any kind of success).

So to see them end up rock bottom of the Premier League and the Championship AND now struggle to get out of League One…could it get more embarrassing for them? Failing to beat Portsmouth today would almost certainly end any hopes of automatic promotion. They have failed to win 21 of their 43 League One games and lost in the final of a cup that Newcastle have never even been low enough down to enter…

Ole Gunnar Soskjaer

Always funny to see Manchester United (relatively) struggle, despite the ‘backing’ of their countrywide/worldwide army of armchair gloryhunters.

However, for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to appear to be their saviour and then things to so dramatically fall apart, is very special. A generation of Newcastle fans will never forgive or forget when he hacked Robert Lee down just as he was going to score the winner at Old Trafford, a red card nowhere near enough punishment but what is happening now will just about satisfy me.

Aleksandar Mitrovic

I don’t really buy into this one.

However, a lot of Newcastle fans are seemingly desperate for Mitro to do badly, to ‘prove’ that Rafa Benitez was right in selling him and that Rondon is better anyway. An early relegation for Fulham and Mitro has done the job for many of our fans but when the Serbian has still scored more Premier League goals than any Newcastle player this season, this one is a bit of a hollow one as far as I can see.

Brighton

After Newcastle United pipped them so dramatically on the final day, Brighton fans have had a bit of an ongoing nastiness towards NUFC after losing out on the champions spot.

With no goals and six defeats and one draw, from their last seven games, Newcastle fans are now happy be getting plenty Schadenfreude from their relegation worries.

Liverpool and Manchester City

Somebody started a rumour that Newcastle fans wanted Liverpool to win the Premier League which has got plenty of backs up amongst the NUFC support.

The truth is we want nobody to win it, neither Man City or Liverpool. Having accepted that one of them has to, Newcastle fans are happy to see the supporters of both clubs concerned that NUFC could stop them being crowned. Newcastle the only PL club to take points off Man City in 2019, whilst Newcastle away looking the toughest game left for the scousers.
