Not a great Tuesday night for Newcastle United loan players

A number of Newcastle United loan players were in action on Tuesday night.

As well as the spotlight on the Champions League, games have to be got through in the lower divisions of English football.

West Brom went three goals down to Bristol City in the opening 19 minutes.

Dwight Gayle scored his 17th goal in 29 Championship starts (plus 5 appearances from the bench) but the Baggies still went down 3-2 in the end. The result leaves them nine points adrift of the automatic promotion places and nine points clear of those casing play-off places, so with five games to go it looks as though it will definitely be the play-off lottery for West Brom,

A disappointing loan spell continues for Jacob Murphy, he wasn’t in the starting 11 or on the bench.

At Hillsborough it was a comfortable 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest for who Jack Colback played 79 minutes (without a 15th yellow card) before being subbed.

Achraf Lazaar returned from a hamstring injury and came on as a sub for the final four minutes, though Rolando Aarons is on the injury list now.

With five games to go, Sheffield Wednesday are four points off the play-offs and Forest six points adrift.

In League One, Dan Barlaser played the full 90 minutes as Accrington Stanley lost 1-0 at home to Rochdale. This leaves them only two points clear of the relegation zone.

Newcastle defender Liam Gibson is still on the Stanley injured list.
