The results of the Newcastle v Brighton player ratings by fans.

Each player marked out of 10 and the averages below.

The proverbial game of two halves.

Newcastle totally dominant before the break against a woeful home side, then Brighton the better team in the second half despite not really doing anything special, as Rafa’s team struggled to do anything of consequence after the break.

Isaac Hayden (7.5) was your man of the match, another accomplished performance despite others fading as the game went on.

Another three players rated 7.0 or higher.

Fabian Schar (7,3) steady at the back and as always. prepared to carry the ball, one run into the box should have produced a first half penalty.

Ayoze Perez (7.1) and Salomon Rondon linked well in the early stages and the Spaniard produced a stylish finish from Rondon’s knock down, before exiting with an injury.

Matt Ritchie (7.0) was lively and put certain others to shame, defended well and did his best to get the team moving forward.

At the other end of the spectrum you had Christian Atsu (4.6), offering absolutely nothing in an anonymous display.

All three substitutes were as bad, Kenedy (2.4) the worst of the lot and along with Atsu was a passenger.

Ki (4.3) and Muto (4.0) not prompting any improvement when introduced late on.

The other six starters were rated in the 6.somethings.

Paul Dummett (6.9) the best of them with his usual committed play at the back.

Rondon (6.5) doing ok early on and providing the assist before any kind of support vanished.

Fernandez (6.4) and Manquillo (6.4) very average, whilst Dubravka (6.3) should have maybe done better with the goal.

Jonjo Shelvey (6.0) completes the picture, had the freedom of the pitch in that opening half but didn’t really penetrate the Brighton defensive lines.
