Newcastle United make approach for Jan Carlos Hurtado – La Provincia
Newcastle United have made an approach for Jan Carlos Hurtado according to reports on Tuesday.
In Argentina, La Provincia report that a number of teams have been watching the highly rated 19 year old, including Marseille and Boca Juniors.
However, they say that whilst those clubs have been scouting the forward, Newcastle United have made an approach.
Serie A side Atalanta are also said to have made contact.
La Provincia add that a firm bid is expected shortly from Newcastle.
In August, Jan Carlos Hurtado moved from Deportivo Tachira in his native Venezuela, to Gimnasia y Esgrima in Argentina.
So far he has scored four goals in 12 starts (plus 12 sub appearances) in Argentina.
At the age of 17, Hurtado was called up to the Venezuela under 20s squad for the 2017 FIFA Under 20s World Cup.
Then after turning 19 in March, the forward has made his full international debut.
It came in the closing stages of Venezuela’s stunning 3-1 win over Lionel Messi and Argentina.
Salomon Rondon scored the opening goal of that game but had been subbed before Jan Carlos Hurtado came onto the pitch.
There have been previous claims of Newcastle United seeing South America as offering value on young up and coming players.
Miguel Almiron made the progression from domestic football in Paraguay to the higher level of league football in Argentina, although he then went to the MLS before joining Newcastle.
