Newcastle United fans accused of being ‘Self-Entitled’…by Brighton fans
An interesting/amusing one from Brighton fans.
After losing to Chelsea in midweek, a Brighton fans radio show used the example of Newcastle United fans to point to how pathetic some of their own (Brighton) fans were when reacting to losing at Stamford Bridge.
The Albion Roar declaring: “Far too many BHAFC fans now with the same sense of self-entitlement previously reserved for Newcastle…”
Definition of ‘Self-Entitled’:
‘Self-entitled : You are emphasising and criticising the fact the person granted himself a special right. You are emphasising that the person’s belief in having the right is false and delusional.’
Newcastle fans held up now as the byword for football supporters who are ‘self-entitled’ and believe they have special rights to success etc.
It is pretty remarkable that anybody can believe your average Newcastle fan is ‘self-entitled’ when supporting a club who has never won a trophy for 50 years.
Every club has some fans who are an embarrassment but just because one person says something, doesn’t mean everybody else agrees with it.
Personally, I don’t know anybody who thinks we have some special right to be winning anything. All we want is to have a club that is trying its best to improve and that maybe one day that could lead to winning something, which is clearly not happening (club trying its best) under Mike Ashley.
Sadly, I think there are too many sheep these days that are too heavily influenced by the appalling media we are served up.
For Brighton fans who come up when playing Newcastle, especially those who stay over, the overwhelming reaction I am sure (like pretty much every other set of visiting fans) will be great city, great location of SJP, too many steps up to the away end, fantastic pubs, and overwhelmingly friendly home fans who simply dream of better.
It is no surprise that Newcastle fans with a few years on the clock should dream of better, before Mike Ashley arrived, those Newcastle fans ad seen Premier League finishes of second (twice), third (twice), fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, most PL seasons including European football, UEFA Cup semi-final, two FA Cup finals, four FA Cup semi-finals, Champions League football and so on.
It isn’t that Newcastle fans think they have an automatic right to Champions League football, it is simply that they loved it so much, especially the trips abroad, and are desperate to experience again one day.
As one of the Newcastle fans commenting below says, the Brighton fans are listening to the likes of Talksport too much.
A typical scenario would see the likes of the embarrassing Adrian Durham on Talksport putting up a topic of ‘Can Newcastle get into the Champions League’ after we have won a few games in a row, then you get opposition fans who haven’t got a clue, reacting and saying look at the deluded Geordies thinking they have the right to be in the Champions League!
From The Albion Roar (A Brighton fans radio show) Twitter account after losing to Chelsea in midweek:
“Bad, though not unexpected result against Chelsea.
“An improved performance from the Saints game, considering the opposition.
“Far too many BHAFC fans now with the same sense of self-entitlement previously reserved for Newcastle and Sheff Wed.”
Newcastle fans reacting:
“Your club hasn’t even won a second tier title, in comparison to our 8 wins from the top two divisions.
“You’ve had one FA Cup final runners up medal to our 6 victories. We’ve had more seasons in Europe than you have had in the PL.
“Don’t try and compare NUFC to Your tin pot club.”
“Running for the moral high ground again…that was abject”
“From the team that printed championships winning scarfs & then we all know how that went.”
The Albion Roar:
“You bought a knock off scarf from one of those irritating Brighton Station touts and and then claim that had something to do with the club?
“As muggings go, you were easy.”
(The Champions arch that ended up not needed at Villa Park on final day of 2016/17 Championship season)
“So the club’s not arrogant or self entitled… But the fans are. Got it!”
“As I’m a NUFC fan, go on explain yourself and that comment.
“I fu..ing dare you and I will clearly and factually demonstrate that we are far from fu..ing self entitled you absolute whopper!”
“Ask your manager if we have a sense of “self-entitlement. He’ll tell you different. Been listening to talksh..e too much mate.”
