It was all going so well…but now Joey Barton investigated for alleged assault on rival manager
Joey Barton has done a good job this season.
The former Newcastle midfielder letting his team do the talking on the pitch.
Many people had predicted mayhem and controversy as he moved into management, however, the Fleetwood Town boss has stayed on the back pages rather than the front pages of the newspapers.
Until today that is…
Fleetwood travelled to Barnsley on Saturday afternoon, the visitors are out of the promotion race but can’t go down either. So pretty much a meaningless game for them.
Barnsley are vying with Sunderland for the second automatic play-off spot and recorded a 4-2 win, going two points clear of the Mackems who recorded a hilarious 5-4 home defeat to Coventry.
For whatever reason, Joey Barton has allegedly not taking kindly to getting beat and seeing one of his players sent off.
Joey Barton is reported to have been stopped from leaving Oakwell by Police, with allegations that he assaulted Barnsley boss Daniel Stendel in the tunnel during a post-match brawl.
It is claimed that Barton and Stendel had to be separated by stewards and police in the tunnel, with Barnsley club officials said to have filmed the incident.
Barnsley forward Cauley Woodrow took to Twitter to have his say and put this message up (which he then later deleted):
“Firstly, Fleetwood Town, to have a manager that can physically assault another manager in the tunnel is disgusting, causing our manager to have blood pouring from his face!!
“People like you don’t deserve a place in the game of football you are foul.
“Secondly, fantastic win today Barnsley FC”
It remains to be seen how this incident pans out for Joey Barton and whether he will still be in charge for the remaining games is an unknown.
In their final home game (second last game of the season), Fleetwood and Joey Barton are set to host Sunderland.
