Dermot Gallagher reviews controversial decisions in the Premier League after each round of games, on behalf of Sky Sports, and has given his call on two incidents in the Leicester 0 Newcastle 1 match.

The former top referee looking at one piece of action in each half, both of them involving Leicester’s Youri Tielemans.

Firstly, whether the Foxes midfielder should have been sent off, then secondly, whether he should have won his side a late penalty.

The incident in the first half saw a Tielemans challenge leave Ki Sung-yeng writhing on the ground but getting only a booking.

Whilst Newcastle’s lead was preserved when referee Chris Kavangh refused to give Leicester a last gasp penalty which could/would have squared the game.

Dermot Gallagher speaking to Sky Sports:

Incident:

Youri Tielemans goes in late on Ki Sung-yeung, the Leicester player getting a yellow card whilst some suggested it should have been red.

Dermot Gallagher verdict:

Correct decision, yellow card.

Dermot Gallagher says:

“I think that a yellow card was right.

“If you’re going to red card someone, you’ve got to be able to say ‘yes, that’s a red card.’

“If you look at this one, no surprise that it was a yellow card came out.

“There is nobody saying ‘you have got that wrong’.

“He (Tielemans) is also low.

“If you look at it, his foot is very low and he hasonl y just missed the ball.

“The game is so fast that some of these tackles in slow motion look so much worse.”

Incident:

Leicester claim penalty when Youri Tielemans goes down late on, the home side alleging Javier Manquillo has pulled him to the ground.

Dermot Gallagher verdict:

Correct decision, no penalty.

Dermot Gallagher says:

“I think he (Youri Tielemans) feels a little touch and goes down.

“If somebody is pulling you back, you would never fall that way.

“That is what has (rightfully) convinced the referee not to give a penalty.”
