Educated by Alan Shearer, Ian Wright delivers once again on Mike Ashley and Rafa Benitez

Ian Wright is becoming a bit of a unlikely legend when it comes to exposing Mike Ashley and being a friend to the Newcastle United fanbase.

The work put in by Alan Shearer in educating his fellow pundit can’t be underestimated.

Put it this way, if Ian Wright wasn’t best mates with the NUFC legend, is there any chance he would be coming out with such top stuff?

For neutrals, it is far easier to dismiss what Newcastle fans say, even those who are famous (such as Alan Shearer), than it is to rubbish what somebody like Ian Wright says.

The player turned pundit knows his stuff as well, unlike so many other non-Newcastle supporters who like to pass judgement on our club…

It is both uplifting and depressing when Ian Wright describes it as a ‘miracle’ that Newcastle United have not been relegated.

The BBC Sport pundit referring to the job Rafa Benitez has done ‘when you consider the lack of investment and the lack of help he has had’ from Mike Ashley.

As for a solution to the situation whereby it is now seen as a ‘miracle’ each season that Newcastle can stay in the Premier League, Ian Wright thinks NUFC would be a ‘bargain’ for a new owner.

The former Arsenal player pointing to the fanbase and (current!) manager as huge assets to somebody buying the club.

Yet again though, you have to question why, if Mike Ashley was/is honestly trying to sell the club at a fair/market price, why he still owns it after more than a decade of ‘trying’ to find a buyer.

Most other major clubs in England have either been sold in the time Ashley has owned Newcastle United, or had somebody come in and become the controlling shareholder.

Ian Wright talking on MOTD:

“ You are talking about £300m for Newcastle.

“I think that it is a bargain for someone…

“With the players he (Rafa Benitez) has got, people saying it is a Championship side and they have stayed up comfortably.

“The man needs some help.

“Unbelievable…the amount of fans they brought to Leicester…that is amazing Newcastle.”

“Perez was the match winner against Leicester but what Rafa has done with that team is just a miracle really.

“I watched him (Ayoze Perez) against Everton and he was magnificent that day…a real nuisance.

“Brilliant play by Matt Ritchie in the build-up (with the cross) but that run across the near post and then that header is brilliant.

“You have to hand it to Rafa.

“What he has done for that club, when you consider the lack of investment and the lack of help he has had., to get this team into another season in the Premier League, it is a miracle.”
