Dwight Gayle has a phenomenal record in the Championship, with the Newcastle loan striker adding another three to his tally this weekend.

Gayle smashing home a hat-trick on Saturday afternoon as West Brom beat Preston 4-1.

In the Championship for Newcastle and West Brom, Gayle now has 44 goals in 56 starts (plus 11 appearances off the bench).

This season alone he has 21 goals in 30 Championship starts (plus five sub appearances).

On top of that Dwight Gayle also has seven assists and has won most of the eight penalties his strike partner Jay Rodriguez has scored this season.

Gayle has another two seasons to go on his Newcastle contract, a contract which was enhanced with higher wages as part of his agreement to go out on loan last summer.

However, now the striker has said he would welcome the chance to stay at West Brom on a permanent basis.

In the aftermath of Saturday’s hat-trick and 4-1 win, Dwight Gayle asked by the Express and Star if he sees himself staying at the Hawthorns permanently:

“Yes, of course.

“I have really enjoyed the season and the fans have taken to me and showed great support.

“In the summer I’m going to see what happens but I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here.

“The most important thing is we just finish with promotion.

“That’s what everyone wants and it’s not going to be a successful (season) unless we do that.

“It was tough for him (caretaker boss James Shan) to take over and he has done sensational.

“What he has given to the team over the last 13 years at the club has been fantastic.

“He has worked so hard in and around the training ground. You can see with our performances what we feel towards him.

“Over the last six games, we’ve picked up 12 points under him which should be enough to get promoted.”
