Ayoze Perez hands ultimatum to Newcastle United according to ‘source close to player’

An interesting ‘exclusive’ has just been published regrading Ayoze Perez.

The story coming out only hours after the disappointing 2-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Disappointing not so much to do with the scoreline, more the fact that Newcastle were so inferior and apparently had no belief of getting anything from the game.

Rafa Benitez stating after the game that the team/squad badly needs investment, especially in the final third of the pitch.

This Ayoze Perez ‘exclusive’ appearing to back/reiterate what the manager had to say.

A bit of a strange one this though with the Chronicle quoting ‘a source close’ to Ayoze Perez.

With everything so strictly controlled by the club these days and all interviews with players having to be approved by Newcastle United before they happen, on the surface this looks to be very much an unofficial interview.

As when you read what Perez is actually claimed to say/think, he must at least have given the ok for the ‘source’ to speak to the newspaper.

Last week Ayoze Perez gave an interview to Spanish media where he said it could be time for him to go and play on La Liga. These new source quotes appearing to give an ultimatum, of Mike Ashley needing to show ambition (or sell the club) or else Perez will look to go.

All Newcastle fans want to see ambition shown and preferably Mike Ashley sell the club but it is a bit of unfortunate timing these quotes being released, considering how woeful Ayoze Perez was against Arsenal last night, possibly the worst player on the pitch.

There is an ongoing debate about Perez amongst the Newcastle United fanbase.

Is he part of the problem or part of the solution?

For my money, he probably deserves his place in the team at the minute but I think that if Newcastle are to improve then his position is one of those that needs strengthening with better quality.

Personally, the claims in these quotes that Ayoze Perez would be interested if clubs such as Real Madrid and Barcelona were interested, is surely daydreaming for the player, as he is nowhere that level.

However, if you take the Chronicle ‘source’ as having substance, we could well be seeing Ayoze Perez depart this summer after five years, though not to Barcelona or Real Madrid!

Quotes from ‘A source close to Ayoze Perez’ as reported by The Chronicle:

“He is Spanish and he would like to go back to Spain if there were teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid or Valencia interested.

“But he did not say he wants to leave – he just wants to improve.

“It does not mean Ayoze is not happy in Newcastle but nowadays it is a club whose only aspiration is to survive.

“He has been in an incredible place for many years where people live and breathe football in a special way but it is always the same goal and that tires any player with ambition who wants to improve – and not only earn money.

“Ayoze is very grateful to Newcastle but he needs to live other experiences, too.

“If Newcastle took the step to change and fight, fulfilling its potential, Ayoze would be happy to continue because it’s a fantastic place to play.

“Although he has a contract until 2021, it’s a matter of fighting for bigger things – not just staying in the Premier League.”
