Arsenal 2 Newcastle 0 – Instant United fan/writer reaction to Monday night’s defeat
Arsenal 2 Newcastle 0 – Monday 1 April 8pm
We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.
Newcastle losing to a goal in each half but it could have been a lot worse.
Only a second defeat in seven Premier League games for Rafa’s team.
“On the face of it 2-0 at Arsenal doesn´t seem like a bad effort, especially as they only made it safe with about seven minutes to go.
“The reality was much different.
“It was a completely negative display, compounded by an inability to keep the ball for more than five passes and a failure to even occasionally find our attacking players with anything like a pass they could do something with.
“We didn’t defend particularly well either.
“Apart from that it was great.”
“Slightly disappointed as I thought we could nick something.
“No disgrace, better team won, but we were solid enough.
“For me it’s what happens going forward because give our manager half of what Arsenal have at their disposal and it’s interesting
“No shame, no gain, bring on Palace.”
“A really poor display tonight from the Newcastle players, albeit on a ground where we never seem to do well, whether it was Highbury or the Emirates.
“We can, and must, play better than this before the season is over.”
“Too much class.”
“Boring, lifeless, lethargic performance. Rafa may not think the season is over but in truth it is!
“Would have been nice if we had something to shout about tonight rather than an ultra defensive abject display.
“One of the games when you feel sorry for all of those that made the effort on a Monday night.”
“We never really got going.
“Some below par performances which we cannot afford when playing a team like Arsenal, who to be fair are better than us!
“Here’s hoping everyone is on their game on Saturday and we can take all 3 points from Crystal Palace…”
“Another pointless Monday night football match goes by with defeat.
“Away from home.
“Long trip for the fans. Again.
“Don’t have much to say about the match.
“But I will say, so when the game is over and we’ve lost, Dubravka gets a foul and goal disallowed.
“When we are 1-0 up in injury time against Wolves, referee allows the goal?
