Aleksandar Mitrovic and Fulham are relegated

Aleksandar Mitrovic and Fulham are now relegated.

Huddersfield went down with six games still remaining and now the team from Craven Cottage have done it with five remaining.

Fulham needed at least a point on Tuesday night to mean they weren’t mathematically down.

Babel gave them some hope with an equaliser to cancel out Doucoure’s opener.

However, their hopes have finally ended in the same way as much of the season has gone, a defensive collapse seeing three goals conceded in 12 second half minutes, giving a final score of Watford 4 Fulham 1.

Aleksandar Mitrovic played the full 90 minutes but was unable to turn the tide.

A chaotic season for Fulham saw them start with five points from the opening six games, before then six defeats in a row.

Hopes were raised as they ended 2018 with a run of nine points from eight games.

However, in 2019 it has been a case of played 13 and lost 12, with just one win and three points since December.

Mitrovic’ personal form/goals has mirrored the team overall, he scored five goals in the opening six games but then has scored in only three of the next 27 games, although he scored twice in two of those three games.

With five games still to go, Fulham have conceded a colossal 76 goals, 17 more than the next highest total.

Only two clean sheers in the 33 Premier League games, a 1-0 home win over Huddersfield and that abysmal goalless draw at St James Park just before Christmas.

Aleksandar Mitrovic has put plenty games/minutes in. Last weekend’s defeat to Man City was missed through injury and he started the other 32 PL games, indeed he has played all but 138 minutes of the entire league season.

An unwanted notch on his CV, Mitro has now been relegated in both of his full Premier League campaigns.

Still only aged 24, it will be interesting to see what the next step will be for the former Newcastle striker.

For Mitro and Fulham, the fire has now well and truly gone out.
