Why you should join the new Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST)
It’s been a turbulent season for Newcastle United fans, in fact it’s been a turbulent decade and as we’ve come to accept, that’s probably going to be the case for a while yet.
In this decade we’ve seen a multitude of protest groups started alongside individual efforts to oust Ashley from our beloved club, yet nothing so far seems to have bothered him enough to sell up.
There are several key aspects which are missing from Newcastle United currently which means it’s failing its loyal fan-base and I’m not just talking about lack of investment in the men’s first team. I’m referring to the club’s lack of communication with fans, it’s lack of investment and pride in the local area / local community and its lack of ambition to be a club that leads the way in current affairs. This is where Newcastle United Supporters Trust comes in.
The Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST) seeks to benefit our football club, it’s supporters and the local area/community by channelling the passion of the toon army fanbase.
NUST is the only fan organisation that is a legally constituted, fully democratic and not-for-profit Supporters Trust. What this means is, legally the Supporters Trust could own a share of the club, or the club in its entirety and ensure that the fanbase has an official say in the running of the club.
The Trust is ran by its members. Every member is eligible to stand for election and to vote for candidates for the NUST board which will be accountable to all NUST members.
The Trust is legally registered and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Any money raised or shares bought will belong to all members equally. The trust produces independently audited annual accounts and provides regular updates to members through meetings, newsletters, emails and website.
Share of the club aside, because in its current form, that isn’t yet possible, what the Trust can achieve is to be an official voice of the fanbase. A voice which the club would have very little choice but to work with if enough members join the Trust.
Imagine, an official Supporters Trust with 52,000 paid members, all able to democratically vote on the issues fans, the club and local community face and approach the club with suggestions on how to combat them. With enough fans all joined together in one unit, it’s the group that is needed to be a positive force for change at St James’ Park.
What are NUST working on?
Currently, the Trust are working on several projects:
Increasing the number of members to be a positive force for change – we have already reduced the prices of our membership tiers to be more affordable for the masses with Lifetime membership being reduced from £100 to only £10.
NUST Fans Foodbank – we are a founder of the fans foodbank that you see outside of St James’ Park every home match and regularly collect for the city’s vulnerable.
Safe Standing – we are a firm believer in safe standing being an option for Premier League football clubs and fans and fully support the FSF in their position on safe standing.
Twenty’s Plenty – we believe in affordable football for normal people and are happy to support the campaign to reduce away ticket prices to a maximum of £20.
Loyalty Points Retention – we have launched a campaign to encourage the club to retain supporter’s loyalty points after they cancel their season tickets.
United with Pride – we support the group which is formed by members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Fans Forum Improvements – The trust is actively working with the club to improve the structure of their fan forum.
What could NUST be working on?
Anything that the member-base deems important, if you’re a member, you can suggest projects for the Trust to work on!
How do you join the Trust?
To join the trust, visit the official website and select the membership option which best suits you, currently there are four tiers:

We can really make a difference as a fanbase, but to do so we need to be united together under an official democratic, regulated body, and that body is the NUFC Supporters Trust.
