West Ham 2 Newcastle 0 – Match ratings of all NUFC players
We asked Jonathan Drape-Comyn to give us his match ratings after West Ham 2 Newcastle 0.
Two first half goals putting the home side well on top.
Newcastle got better after the break but lacked a cutting edge to get themselves back into the game.
Dubravka – 6: Probably couldn’t do much about the first goal, although when a player heads in from six yards there is always a question mark of whether the keeper could come for it.
Distribution was shocking all day though.
Manquillo – 6: Good job the other night but really poor today.
Would like to see Yedlin back in the next game.
Schar – 4: Terrible performance from him today and at times in the second half he didn’t look like he could be arsed at all.
That is the last thing I want to see in a player.
Lascelles – 6: I thought he was the better of our three centre backs but that isn’t saying a lot!
Lejeune – 5: On a par with Schar but at least he looked like he kept going until the end.
Ritchie – 6: An expected dip in his performance.
He was terrible today but he’s played so much football lately that it was to be expected at some point.
Still got into good positions but was the main protagonist when it came to poor final balls.
Longstaff – 5: A really poor first half but that is his first bad display in a Newcastle shirt and he has certainly earned that poor first half display.
Taken off at HT with a yellow card to his name.
Hayden – 7: Probably the one player on the pitch today who can hold his head high.
Had a decent game in the middle of the pitch and at times was the main player coming from midfield, really trying to go beyond and make something happen.
Perez – 5: Another game in which he spent more time rolling around feigning injuries, throwing his arms in the air and complaining to the ref rather than doing anything of substance.
Didn’t contribute anything to the game and was happy to spend a decent amount of time on the floor, while West Ham went forward, only to miraculously jump up and be fine once the ball went out.
Almiron – 5: Had a really bad game.
Nothing positive to say really! Really struggled, looked very lightweight and backed out of his fair share of challenges.
Three games in a week is hard for a new player in a new country. I would give him a rest in the next game and give him the chance to make an impact from the bench (but I’m not Rafa).
Rondon – 6: His worst game in a while!
Nothing would stick and he would have still got a goal if it wasn’t for great West Ham defending.
Diame – 6: Did ok but didn’t look up to it if I’m honest!
Dummett – 6: Don’t remember him doing anything of significance.
Atsu – 7: Looked dangerous when he came on and probably did more than Perez or Almiron in his short cameo.
Sixth players came over at the end the game to applaud the travelling fans after a 5.30 kick off in London – Rondon, Diame, Lascelles, Dummett, Hayden, Dubravka.
The rest fu…. off.
Fans – N/A: A decent sized minority of Newcastle fans singing pro- Tommy Robinson chants on their way out of the stadium. What’s happened to us?
