Tony Cascarino backs Mike Ashley not selling Newcastle United ‘On the absolute cheap’

Tony Cascarino has been having his say on Mike Ashley selling Newcastle United.

Or rather…not selling Newcastle United.

His belief is that prospective buyers may be trying to get the club ‘on the absolute cheap’ from Ashley.

Tony Cascarino seeing that they might think they can use pressure from fans to persuade Mike Ashley to sell up at a lower price than he wants.

Hmmm, well 11 years ago Mike Ashley responded to Newcastle fan pressure after Keegan was forced out, telling supporters they didn’t need to worry and could stop their protests, because he promised he would sell the club as soon as possible…

Tony Cascarino says that ‘Ashley is entitled to say no to offers if he doesn’t think they are even close to what he values the club at.’

It is amazing how people in the media automatically believe certain things.

Despite Mike Ashley having misled everybody from MPs to Newcastle fans year after year, media people want to believe…

Firstly, that Ashley genuinely has the club for sale.

Secondly, that he has Newcastle United up for sale at a market price.

Continually saying NUFC is up for sale but never ever putting it up for sale at a market price, is simply having no intention of selling by another name.

You come back to the same point, if somebody tries unsuccessfully to sell their house for 11 years, how can anybody think that the problem lies with potential buyers?

Tony Cascarino speaking to Talksport:

“You do have to wonder from the outside, if people are trying to take advantage of trying to get Newcastle on the absolute cheap.

“And thinking the fans will put pressure on Ashley and he will budge.

“But he is a businessman and he probably won’t.

“As much as Newcastle fans will think he is wrong for their football club, which is probably a fair argument…

“Ashley is entitled to say no to offers if he doesn’t think they are even close to what he values the club at.”
