Reported Michael Carrick being lined up to replace Rafa Benitez – Very dubious

An ‘Exclusive’ has been published today, reporting/claiming that Newcastle United are lining up Michael Carrick if Rafa Benitez leaves in the summer.

There are 10 games and around three months to go before the Newcastle boss sees his current contract come to an end.

Rafa making clear he won’t be talking about his future at least until Newcastle’ Premier League safety is assured.

As for the ‘Exclusive’, well judging by the source of it I wouldn’t be relying on it too much.

When it comes to their ‘exclusives’, Teamtalk have a pretty appalling record.

A few examples are outlined below..

Last month (January 2019) the claimed Newcastle were trying to sign Yannick Bolasie on loan, this being despite NUFC already having two players on loan from English clubs and not allowed a third.

Last summer, just one of their many run of the mill ‘players set to sign’ stories, claimed Newcastle were making an approach to sign Danny Welbeck…

Last May (2015), Teamtalk had an ‘exclusive’ saying that Newcastle wanted to take both Kenedy and Tammy Abraham on loan, this despite the rules being that you can only only loan one player maximum from another Premier League club.

In November 2017, they ridiculously ran an ‘exclusive’ claiming Amanda Staveley had made an offer where the full amount would only be payable in a buyout of NUFC, if they won the Champions League within 10 years.

If nothing else they give you a laugh…

The latest ‘Exclusive’ from Teamtalk today (2 March 2019):

‘TEAMtalk understands Newcastle United are making contingency plans for life without Rafa Benitez, if he decides not to prolong his stay with the club, and one name on their list is a Geordie.

Our sources claim Michael Carrick is a emerging as a contender for the top job on Tyneside, should Benitez decide to walk away from the club in the summer.

…the chance to bring a hometown boy back to the club he grew up supporting is something they would seriously consider.’
