Premier League clubs stats on penalties given for and against in past 2 seasons – Big discrepancies
When it comes to penalties in the Premier League, there is one very stand out statistic.
Over the course of these past two seasons (2017/18 and 2018/19), Crystal Palace have been awarded a massive 19 penalties.
To get 19 penalties in only 68 Premier League matches is remarkable, that is one every three and a bit matches. For a club at the wrong end of the table it is particularly surprising, although Zaha’s ability to fall to the ground is particularly impressive.
Quite surprising to see clubs such as Tottenham getting only seven and Chelsea & Liverpool eight each, consideringĀ how dominant they areĀ in most games.
As for Newcastle United, only two clubs have managed to win than NUFC’s four penalties, Burnley and Huddersfield with two each.
Whilst when it comes to conceding, only Huddersfield (11) and Brighton (12) have conceded more than Newcastle’s 10.
Newcastle have even more difficulty converting penalties than they do winning them in the first place.
The Matt Ritchie winner against Manchester City is the only one Newcastle have scored in 68 Premier League games.
Having missed last season in the 1-1 home draw v Burnley (Joselu), then the 0-0 draw at Cardiff (Kenedy) this season, before finally the 3-2 v Everton (Ritchie) on Saturday.
Averaging one every 17 Premier League games, it might be some time before we get to see the next one.
Interesting to see who would/will take it, as Rafa Benitez revealed after Saturday’s game that he’d had Ritchie, Almiron and Rondon getting plenty of practice in ahead of the Everton match.
