Official Premier League site explains Ayoze Perez has far greater underlying potential
An interesting feature on Ayoze Perez from the official Premier League site.
They have looked at four Premier League players who have been generally overlooked, ahead of the weekend’s features.
The feature is based around Fantasy Football but the stats/trends they quote are obviously relevant in general as well.
They point out that Ayoze Perez is clearly coming into more threatening form, after only three goals and one assist across the opening 26 games of the season, he has managed the same (three goals and an assist) in these last four PL matches.
The underlying statistics/pointers are even better, with the PL feature stating: ‘Impressively, his 12 shots inside the penalty area and nine chances created between Gameweeks 27 and 30 both rank among the top three totals for forwards in EPL.’
The more eagle eyed of you will have recognised that this upturn in Perez’ form has coincided with Miguel Almiron’s first four starts at Newcastle.
I don’t think this is any coincidence, the Paraguayan has opened up Newcastle’s attacking play and the threat of his pace and direct running, have created more space and opportunity for others, especially Perez.
Only three clubs have conceded more goals than the 54 Bournemouth have leaked, can Newcastle United and Ayoze Perez take advantage?
The official Premier League site:
‘The Scout is selecting four overlooked players who could be set for a breakout Gameweek 31 in Fantasy Premier League.
Ayoze Perez (NEW) £6.1m
The Newcastle United forward is owned by only 1.3 per cent of managers for his trip to AFC Bournemouth.
Perez has stepped up his form considerably ahead of his visit to the south coast.
His 16-point return against Everton on Saturday was his biggest haul of the season.
Indeed, the Spaniard’s three goals and assist in the last four fixtures equals his output over the opening 26 matches.
The underlying statistics in those recent matches highlight Perez’s attacking potential.
Impressively, his 12 shots inside the penalty area and nine chances created between Gameweeks 27 and 30 both rank among the top three totals for forwards in EPL.
AFC Bournemouth’s defence has struggled to keep out opponents this season.
The Cherries have conceded 54 goals, the fourth-worst record in the Premier League.
That hands Perez the platform to get on the scoresheet again at Vitality Stadium.’
