Newcastle United trying to sign Conner Rennison – Report

Monday morning has brought an ‘exclusive’ claiming that Newcastle United are trying to sign Conner Rennison.

Teamtalk say that Leeds and Middlesbrough are also attempting to do a deal for the young midfielder.

The report adds claims that an extra incentive is that the Hartlepool player is not tied by a contract, so would leave for free if signed this summer.

Rafa Benitez has shown that he is keen to add better quality at all levels of the club and has previously brought in a number of teenagers from both the UK and overseas.

Elias Sorensen has so far proved the biggest success, having arrived as a 16 year old from Danish club HB Koge back in 2016.

Conner Rennison is a promising midfielder and doesn’t turn 17 until July, described on the official Hartlepool website as ‘very forward thinking and attack-minded’.

Player profile from official Hartlepool United site:

‘A very forward-thinking and attack-minded midfielder who covers a lot of ground and has impressed since joining the Club three years ago.

‘Rennison likes to move forward and set up attacks for the team but he’s not one to shirk his defensive responsibilities either and he does both jobs well.’

The Teamtalk ‘exclusive’:

Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Leeds are all chasing teenage Hartlepool midfielder Conner Rennison, we can reveal.

The 16-year-old is at the centre of a three-way battle for his signature as he is not under contract and can leave for free this summer.

Rennison is an all-action midfielder, likened to Lee Cattermole and he coincidentally also hails from Stockton-on-Tees.

Newcastle, Boro and Sunderland are all keen, but there is a great deal of interest in the player with Leeds, Bristol City, Barnsley, Hull and Portsmouth also asking about the prospect of landing the teenage starlet.’
